Spitfires and crushes

It was late when Wally arrived home. He gently raps on the door to his apartment and he smiles when he heard a voice answer:

"One second!" Artemis' voice says hastily behind the cedar door. "Be there in a minute!"

The door swings open and Wally grins. Artemis looks flushed when she sees Wally standing there, but she just smiles lopsidedly and catches him in a bear hug.

"Hey," Wally whispers into her blonde hair.

"hey," Artemis replies. "Where were you? I had almost thought something had happened to you."

"oh, I was just getting dinner." Wally frowns, holding up a bag of fast food, probably gained from a drive thru.

"of course you were getting food," Artemis purses her lips and grabs the bag. "what is this, McDonald's?"

"uh, I think so." Wally shrugs.

"gee, we're eating healthy tonight." Artemis frowns, but doesn't complain. She pecks his cheek and leads him inside. "next time, don't be so late. I thought you had been jumped or something."

"artemis, this is KID FLASH you're talking about here." Wally reminds her. "I think I could take down a couple of crooks still, despite my lack of practice."

"I dunno, Wally." Artemis laughs. "it's been what, two years?"

"oh shut up," Wally grins. "I bet you can't even do a flip anymore."

"challenge accepted, kid idiot." artemis says, jumping up in the air and performing a perfect flip. She lands on one foot, but wobbles a bit and regains her balance. "I need practice," she adds meekly.

"at least you can do it," Wally replies sourly, sitting down at the table with their grubby meal. "I'm really out of shape."

"honey, you're not THAT out of shape," Artemis comforts, pressing her lips on his cheek. "high-metabolism, remember?"

"yeah," Wally shrugs, not reassured at all. "whatever. I'm hungry."

"You always are," Artemis jokes, and sits down next to him, getting her usual fast food meal: a tiny salad with a boatload of croutons.

"Thanks, my little spitfire." Wally smiles as he bites into a burger.

"Wally," Artemis says thoughtfully. "what does 'spitfire' mean? Why do you call me that?"

"oh, um," Wally blushes bright red as Artemis looks at him expectantly. He swallows and takes a deep breath. "Do you remember when I was Fate for a couple minutes back when we met Kent Nelson?"

"yeah," Artemis frowns.

"well, Kent Nelson gave up his own body for me to escape Fate, as you know, and offered me advice before he left." Wally says. "he said that he used to call his wife 'spitfire', since she wouldn't let him get away with anything. He told me that I should get someone who didn't let me get away with all my crap all the time, like Megan."

"those were his exact words?" Artemis looks faintly amused.

"no, he didn't exactly say 'crap'," Wally snorts. "but he began to say someone's name, but I had left before he finished. As I was in the souvenir room later and you asked me about the helmet, I realized that he meant you. I mean, he never met Megan, right? So, I had a crush on you ever since."

"Wally," Artemis whispers, smiling from ear to ear. "never stop calling me that."

"I promise," Wally smiles. "when did you start liking me?"

"oh, since I first saw you." Artemis grins cheekily, blushing. "I thought you were funny, but I didn't really know how to communicate my feelings then, so I just pretended to hate you."

"love at first sight?" Wally laughs, getting up and hugging her around the neck.

"I guess so," Artemis smiles. "but the first time I really admitted to myself that I liked you was after Bialya. I had seen the footage of you seeing my death, and I realized I might actually have a chance against 'Megalicious'"

"you never really thought I LIKED her did you?" Wally asks in a hushed voice. "I thought she was cute at the time, but I knew deep down that I would never get her."

"no, I thought you really did, Baywatch." Artemis frowns. "But whatever, what matters know is that you don't like her anymore, right?"

"Right, my little spitfire." Wally nods, kissing her cheek.

Author's notes: as I said I would, I uploaded about Artemis asking what "spitfire" means. And I worked their admittance about their crushes to each other in there somewhere.

... They're out of shape since they semi-retired. I CANNOT TELL YOU IN WORDS HOW MUCH I WANT THEM TO BECOME HEROES AGAIN!!! ARGGHH WALLY MUST BECOME THE NEXT FLASH!!! HE MUSSSSSST!!! D:<

AND ARTEMIS MUST KICK-ASS ONCE AGAIN!!!! IF THEY DO NOT MAKE THEM HEROES AGAIN, I MUST SUE DC AND MAKE THEM DO IT!!!! >:(
