Killer laughed slightly and put the book down on the table in front of him, "I'm just glad i figured it out. I didn't know what the heck they were talking about. like why do you have to change every 'e' with a 'y'???? It's so weird!" He commented, beginning to eat his food with enthusiasm.
Nightmare nodded slightly as he stuck his fork into some of the chicken Horror had prepared. "It sounds more interesting or fancy, that's also just how old English works." Nightmare said before taking a bite of some of the chicken.
"Yes, but that makes it confusing, they dance around serious topics. That's why I like the modern ones more." Killer said, shrugging, leaning his chin on his hand and looking at Nightmare. "But~ I read whatever you bring me so have at it."
Nightmare paused from his eating to look at Killer completely. Nightmare took a moment to see Killer clearly, and he couldn't help but note how pretty his subordinate looked in the candle light of the home. "I grew up on the fancier ones, so I prefer those books." The goopy skeleton replied simply before continuing to eat his food in peace, looking away.
"Of course you did." Killer said, watching Nightmare before leaning back in his chair with his hands behind his head. "And that, darling, is why we work. Modern and rustic poetry put together is another form of art." He said with a wink, smiling mischievously.
Nightmare raised his brow at the remark, small cyan lingering at the nickname. "Well aren't you in a flirty mood this evening." Nightmare chuckled lightly before he continued eating, a small smile subconsciously on his face.
"Well, for one, I'm tired. And for 2, aren't I always?" Killer commented before looking at the table, smiling slightly to himself.
Nightmare smiled to him with his usual snake like gaze, sharp and murderous. "If you weren't my Right hand man, I would have killed you long ago for this exact reason." Nightmare half joked with him as he finished up his caprisun, looking away with a sly grin."You know it's rude to stare, right?" Dust joked from where he sat across from Cross on the other side of the table, his gaze flickering with amusement.
Cross jumped at the suddenness of the words, he kind of forgot Dust was there. "S-sorry- I'm just curious is all." Cross spoke nervously, he felt embarrassed by how intrigued he was with someone else's life, though it was much more interesting with his at the moment.
Cross looked over to Horror for a moment, noticing that Horror had finished eating his salad, but his plate was also gone, where it went, we will never know. Maybe it was best to mind his own business.
"It's alright." Dust said, laughing slightly as he placed his chin on the backs of his hands, elbows rested on the table. "We all wonder what goes on with them. I can't tell if its mutual pining or if they're already married." He spoke simply. It seemed Dust also already finished his food, or maybe he never got any, though the former seemed more likely.
Cross had to laugh a bit at Dust's suggestion. "Probably the ladder." The knight replied before taking a sip of his caprisun.
"I wouldn't be surprised." Dust said, raising his caprisun for a mock cheers, his monotone voice lingering with a small chuckle.
Cross joined in the cheers with a near childish smile, "I wonder when the wedding is." Cross said half joking before taking a sip out of the fruity drink.
"I call dibs on being the flower girl." Dust commented jokingly before joining in the long sip of the children drink."And that's because I'm bearer left." Killer joked, smiling at his king before he finished up his plate. "Want me to get the dishes tonight?" He asked politely.
Nightmare shook his head, "You need rest, I'll do the dishes myself tonight." Nightmare said as he placed Killer's plate on his own, placing the empty caprisuns on top neatly. "You just rest your head, lovebug." Nightmare used the nickname shyly before getting up and walking to the counter to start running some warm water in the sink.
Killer smiled at Nightmare, sure they didn't know what they were to each other, but it was good. He didn't want to leave to go up to his room yet, so he grabbed his book and walked towards the couch, leaning against the arm of the couch and reading back parts he had already interpreted.
As the right hand man sat reading, he could feel himself fall into the darkness of sleep, his eye sockets threatening to close before snapping open again and again. However, he couldn't keep up forever. He ended up dozing off until he was out cold, the book still open on his chest like a cartoon character going to sleep. The goopy skeleton heard the other lackeys leave to the upstairs as he took off his jacket, exposing his white sweater before throwing away the empty caprisuns, leaving him alone with the sleeping bag of bones. Nightmare cleaned the little dishes there were, slight squeaking being heard as he rubbed the grime off of the shiny porcelain.
As the king placed the plates into the cabinet, he turned around, about to strike up conversation, only to see that Killer was fast asleep on the couch. Nightmare let out a slight scoff, picking up his jacket off the counter and putting it back on for convenience.
The king of darkness walked over to the couch, his tentacles gently picking up the book and placing it down on the table, book marking the page with a flip of the corner. Nightmare's gaze was soft, after all these years, he never thought he would fall for a flirty idiot.
"... Stupid." He scoffed under his breath before Nightmare's tentacles picked up Killer and carried the sleeping lackey as peacefully as they could, hoping to not wake him as Nightmare started his travel down the hall and up the spiral stairs. As Nightmare Made it to Killer's room, he prayed to the tree of feelings that no one left their rooms and saw him being so soft and vulnerable.
The goopy skeleton walked into the room designated to his right hand, walking around socks scattered on the floor to Killer's bed. The king always liked Killer's room, he had made it his own, and the smell of old books was lovely for such a cozy environment. Nightmare placed Killer down gently on the mattress, the springs creaking a bit as the resting skeleton was placed down on top. Nightmare's tentacles pulled the covers up onto Killer as the subordinate moved a bit to get comfortable, one of the tentacles patting the black teared skeleton's head like a cat before coming back to Nightmare.
Nightmare stood there for a few moments in slight consideration before the tentacles from his back tried to organize the room a little, moving some books scattered about into a stack with a few sounds of pages flipping and thumps of books. Nightmare didn't mind the tentacles' work as he left carefully for the door, the appendages zooming to his back before he closed the door gently behind him silently. The king covered his face after a few moments with a hand as he begrudgingly smiled to himself, letting out soft, low chuckles to no one in particular.
He felt his face heat up a bit at the embarrassment of being so gentle, but also from something else.
Or someone else.
