Olivia stared at the phone in her hand. Rafael Barba hung up on me, she thought to herself. Her stomach sank as she replayed most of the conversation they just had. She felt sick,. Slowly she placed her cell phone on its charger. She turned up the thermostat for the hundredth time, turning it up never did any good.
It was always cold in this cabin, no matter what. A question popped into her mind. Does Rafael think I'm a cold human being? She shook her head from side to side as though the action would shake the thought out of her brain. It didn't.
She ran to her bedroom, she wasn't there to sleep, she knew she couldn't sleep. She went on a search for extra blankets, she found 2, She carried them to the couch, and sat down. She wrapped one blanket around her like a shawl, and covered her legs up with the other. She picked up the novel she had been reading. She read the same sentence 3 times before she gave up, and placed the book on the couch cushion next to her. She rose from the couch, ran to get her cell phone, sat back down on the couch, adjusted her blankets again, and dialed her phone, she heard 3 rings before she heard a voice."Hello." Rafael answered."I'll ask again. "What games are you playing, Barba?""None, Captain Benson.""What was that comment about me not liking marshmallows?""The comment was'' you hate marshmallow". he corrected. You do hate them, I don't see the problem.""You don't see the problem? You wanted to hurt Steven, you wanted him to be jealous of you, and you used me to do it!" She answered."I never used you, Liv. He growled. "And I'm not going to start now. You hate marshmallows, that's a fact. My comment had nothing to do with Steven. Go to bed. You sound tired."
"I'm not tired, and I'm not done!""Good neither am I. I thought you loved Stabler. Where did Steven come from?""You said I loved Stabler." Her next words came out very softly. "I just met Steven. The Garlands fixed me up with him when I got here.""Goodnight, Liv. Winter Falls is a small town."
"Wait!" Olivia yelled.
"You called me back to make sure that I'm still here. Didn't you? I'm still here. Get some sleep, I'll see you soon.""Good night, Barba." She whispered, quickly hanging up.

She dialed her phone again,and waited for someone to pick up her call."Liv, what's wrong?" Amanda answered, on the first ring."I'm sorry, Amanda, I shouldn't have called.""What's wrong?""I'm seeing this guy named Steven." Olivia said."I know. Do I need to shoot him?" Amanda answered"Amanda, no!""OK, OK, Liv, you gotta tell me what happened.""You called me when I was on my first date with Steven.""When you were hiding in the bathroom." Amanda added."When I walked out of the bathroom, I saw Barba." Olivia said, softly."Hold on, Liv. Amanda replied. Sonny? Barba is in Winter Falls.""Amanda?" Olivia called."I'm here, Liv, tell me what happened.""Am I on speaker?""No, Liv. What happened?" Amanda answered."I saw Barba talking to Steven when I came out of the bathroom. They know each other from law school. When I finally made it to the table, Barba started making Steven jealous.""Wow, Amanda said. "How did he do that?""Barba told him that we knew each other for a decade. Steven got me a cookie with marshmallows, and Barba told him that I hated marshmallows""This Steven guy ordered for you?""Amanda, that's not the point.""Hold on." Amanda said Olivia could hear the whole story being told over to Carisi.
"Amanda, let me talk to her." Olivia heard Carisi say. Seconds later, Olivia heard his voice on the phone. "Liv, it's Sonny. You have known him for a decade. Do you hate marshmallows?""Yes, I can't stand them." Olivia answered.There you go. I guarantee you, Rafael, is not there to hurt you. Here's Amanda.""Liv, I'm back. Amanda informed her."I have to take Noah, and leave this town, Amanda.""No, Liv—""There are other places to spend vacation, Amanda."
"Liv, don't you dare, you need to stay there. Don't go. Is Noah having a good time?""The best time." Olivia answered."Don't you dare go anywhere, stay there for Noah." Amanda hung up the phone. Olivia put her phone back on the charger, she walked back to the couch to sit alone in the dark.
