Chapter 13

Olivia wanted to sleep. She hadn't slept all night. Her thoughts of Barba kept her up. Memories of him played in her head, she remembered every conversation,every disagreement, and argument they ever had. The second she thought she might be able to sleep, she felt tears in her eyes. She hated the current state of their relationship. She yearned for him, she ached for things to go back to normal. She doubted things would ever be normal between them again, and that thought literally made her nauseous.
Yesterday as soon as Steven asked if he was interrupting, Olivia could feel herself blushing, her eyes lingered on Rafael a second too long before she turned, and walked back into the ski lodge. Rafael followed her, but there was no more time to talk. When they had dinner at The Garlands.Olivia sat next to Steven, while Rafael sat across from her, giving her pleading looks that made her heart soar, and terrified her all at once. Noah begged to stay with The Garlands overnight, and she gave him permission. She was so overwhelmed by the emotions she was feeling, that she left the dinner early., and alone. About 2 minutes into her walk to her cabin her cell phone rang, and it kept ringing. When she entered her cabin, she finally answered the phone. "Hello", she said, her voice sounding small and weak to her.
"Are you OK?" Rafael asked.
"I can't talk right now", she said, softly."Liv—""Please, I can't talk, not now.""Are you safe?" He asked.
"Yes, I'm safe and in my cabin." She answered.
"I'll see you tomorrow. Get some sleep", he replied."Good night, sleep well", she said, before hanging up. She stood up from the couch, went to her room, and climbed into bed, hoping sleep would come.That was hours ago, she didn't sleep a wink, and it was time to get up. She reluctantly climbed out of bed, dressed quickly., put on her makeup, and rushed out of the freezing cabin.She arrived at Steven's cabin a short time later. He answered his door as soon as she knocked, and ushered her inside. "I'm so glad you're here", he said. "You left dinner so suddenly last night, I was worried, and I wanted to walk you home.""I needed time by myself", Olivia replied."Is everything alright?" Steven asked, looking concerned."Yes.""Olivia, I would have called you, but you looked so upset last night, I didn't want to be a nuisance.""That's OK, Steven. I was very tired." It wasn't a lie, Olivia was tired, and last night she did try to go to sleep early.
Steven smiled at her. "Breakfast is ready, follow me", he said. She followed him to a table, and sat down. The table was set for 2, and at the center of it, there were red roses. Steven went into the kitchen, and came back quickly with 2 plates. He set one in front of Olivia, he set his plate across from her, and sat down. "I hope you like French Onion Omelets.""I never had one. Thank-you for making breakfast, Steven." Olivia took a bite. Steven got up and went back to the kitchen. He returned to the table with orange juice, and poured it for the both of them. He sat down. Olivia could feel his eyes on her, it made her feel self-conscious. "Olivia I I invited you here to spend some time with you alone. I like you a lot, I know I can easily fall in love with you.""Steven—""Please, Olivia, let me finish. I know that I live in Connecticut, and you live in New York. After this vacation is over I would like to continue seeing you.""Steven, I—""Don't give me your answer now— Please. think about it, New York is not far from Connecticut", he continued. Olivia couldn't eat another bite.

Christian, Lamai, Abby, Noah, and Rafael were all waiting for Steven, and Olivia at The Winter Falls Ski lodge . Today, the group was going snowboarding. Rafael glanced at his watch. It was 12:30. Olivia was a half an hour late, Olivia was never late, "I'm going outside to look for Liv", Rafael announced to the group.

"And Steven", Christian said,
"And Steven." Rafael mumbled, moving away from the group, and walking outside. He tried to stop himself from visualizing Olivia with Steven together. As he searched for Olivia outside, he began to panic. What if something horrible was happening to her right now? Rafael never liked Steven, but he never thought the man was dangerous. Rafael strode back into the ski lodge, and found the group."I don't see them", Rafael announced."Is mom OK?" Noah asked in an anxious voice.
"Yes, amigo. Stay with the Garlands. I'm going to find her." Rafael glanced at Christian, and Christian followed Rafael to a corner. Rafael spoke in a hushed tone. "I'm going to Olivia's cabin. If she's not there, I'm going to Steven's.""I'll go with you." Christian replied. ""You don't know how to get to Steven's and you don't have his address." Rafael was on the move."Stay with your family. I gotta go, I have my cell phone, you can text it to me." Rafael yelled, as he ran to the exit door. He opened it, and raced outside."Are you alright?" He heard Steven ask. Rafael moved toward his old rival's voice, and was horrified to see Olivia on the ground,"What did you do?" Rafael screamed at Steven as he rushed to Olivia.
