The thought of Tiffany potentially dying stirred up a foreign emotion in me.
" Get the number of berries she could have ingested. " My tone came out more commanding than I expected, Emmeline immediately getting up to do as she was told. I gently pressed my hand to Tiffany's forehead, making sure she didn't catch a fever. Her temperature didn't seem to be abnormal. I carefully adjusted the blanket on her, making sure she was fully covered. I tried my best to wait patiently, putting my head down and rubbing my temples. Minutes felt like hours, and seconds felt twice as long, making me anxious all the more. Emmeline began to make her way back, a form in her hands.
" This is the log for what was logged out, by who, and how much was used. " She handed it to me. I scanned the paper for Pearl's name, now easily found since I had knowledge of her surname. She had checked out the Holly Berries as Emmeline mentioned. . .but only two individual Berries.
" . . .How many Berries do you need to consume for it to be fatal?. . ." Emmeline froze.
" For Holly Berries, it's ten and above. . ." I let myself relax, not taking notice that I had been holding my breath, handing her the sheet to examine herself.
" . . .We still need to keep an eye on her, regardless if the dose she took was fatal or not. She's still prone to experiencing severe symptoms. " Emmeline informed me. " I'll keep you posted on how she's doing. With all due respect, sir, I would get back to your post if I were you. I've seen your commander, and he doesn't look like the friendliest of lads to be utterly honest with you. " She mumbled, playing with her hands.
" You're quite right on that one. I'll take my leave, then. " I got up to leave, but my feet felt glued to the floor. I hesitated, giving Tiffany one last glance. " Please. . .take good care of her for me. " I asked of Emmeline, who nodded in response. I left the clinic, my chest aching, wanting to go back.

I walked into my office, taking of my suit coat and laying it neatly on my chair. I pulled out the report Erwin had given me not too long ago, gathering the final details and formatting it, preparing to deliver it to him. Just as I was about to get up to bring it to him, there was a knock at my door.
" Come in. " I groaned, closing the file in my hands and laying it back down. To my surprise, it was Erwin who walked in, an irritated look on his face. What's he going to get onto me about now?, I asked myself as he closed the door.
" Is the report finished? " He asked.
" I was just about to bring it to you. " I patted the file on my desk.
" Good. " He took it, putting it under his arm. " I wanted to talk to you about something that I've been observing lately. " He sat down in one of the chairs in front of my desk.
" Go ahead. " I sighed, cleaning up my desk and organizing the papers and pens I had set out before me.
" I've noticed you've been pretty. . .absent from your post lately. " He said firmly.
" I apologize. I've been handling outside affairs these past couple of days. I should be on top of my work from here on out. " I tried to reassure him.
" I hope these 'affairs' were necessary for you to take part in. You are positive they concerned you, correct? " I felt myself hesitate.
" What kind of question is that? " I scowled.
" Based on what I've seen, you've been alongside the nurse that has been taking care of Hange. " He responded.
" And? " I shrugged. " What does she have to do with any of this? " I sneered.
