( Hey everyone! It's been a long time, hasn't it? I have an explanation posted in my page explaining more in depth of why I was gone, so go check it out if you want! As always, happy reading! P.S. Sorry it's so short. . .)

- -  - 24 hours until the trial expedition was to be carried out - - -

" . . .and once we analyze the outcome of the weaponry, we return back to base. " The Captain drew another long, white line on the chalkboard. I flicked another line on my notepad. " Any questions? Ask them now, while we're safe, and not out there. " He scowled. I listened to some of the questions asked, skimming through my notes as they conversed.

I closed my notepad as people trickled out of the room, not noticing that the Captain was reading my loose papers next to me. I jumped slightly when I noticed him in the corner of my eye.

" Damn!- Don't do that! " I laughed, gathering my things.

" Sorry- Did you actually take the time to copy the entire diagram? " He reached for the notepad on the top of the stack, taking a closer look.

" Yea. . . " I sighed, wondering if I should take the notepad back before he paid his concerns.

" You overthink too much. " He grumbled. " . . .Did you take lessons in art or something?- " He continued studying the sketch.

" See now you're just flattering me too much- " I murmured, taking the notepad from him.

" It's not flattering if it's the truth, Tiffany. " He looked over my shoulder to catch one last glimpse of the drawing before I closed the notepad. " Everything okay? No questions? " He asked me as I stuffed my things in my bag.

" No, I'm okay. I'll let you know if I have any. "

Truth was, I had many questions picking at me. . .but for those, only fate knew their answer.

" If you say so. " His eyes were expectant as I began to make my way to the door. " Hey-. . ." I turned around to meet his eyes once again. ". . .don't overthink this, okay?. . ." He whispered softly to me, my eyes quickly averting from his.

" You've read me once again. . .I'll do my best, okay?. . .no promises though. " I laughed, offering him a warm smile, to which he subtly returned.

" You're positive you don't have any questions?. . .like I said- don't come to me in the middle of all this. " The Captain crossed his arms.

" If I somehow come up with any questions that my notes don't answer, I'll let you know. " I laughed. I could tell he tried to make his expression emotionless, but his eyes betrayed him. They always did. They tugged desperately at mine, not letting them go, begging me to stay a little longer. Those eyes of his would always speak more than he ever would.

" . . .I'll see you tomorrow, Captain. " I smiled, leaving reluctantly.

- - - 10 hours until the trial expedition was to be carried out - - -

" . . .and that should do. " Emmeline fastened the pin on the collar of my jacket.

" It's-. . .different. " I looked down at the uniform.

" Right?. . .I think we're so used to those nurse dresses that wearing clothes like this is out of the question anymore- " Emmeline fixed her collar next to me.
