I walked along the rocky granite path that lead to the Scouting Regiment's training grounds.

" Terrance Le'Varge, you asked, sir? " I nodded without making eye contact with the authoritive walking by my side. " He's just over there, sir, training. Er- the one to your left- sir. " I followed the location to where she pointed.

A tan haired trainee was engaging in weaponry combat, and his moves were quite clean. I observed closely as he successfully took down his opponent, even though he clearly had the advantage over a scrawny little woman. He would surely be deadly once given a real knife. The young man truly had great potential. He simply needed more in-depth training, and he would be an ideal soldier.

Something told me to get a closer look at his facial features. Medium skin. Green eyes.

No. Hazel.

They reminded me of her eyes. Sparkling, elegant. . .

I shook my head. What was I thinking?! Those adjectives-

I then remembered the voice of an old woman that I overheard in the market a couple days ago.

She had illustrated with her words, an old wives tale.

' Soul bound lovers tend to grow in resemblance when they spend endless amounts of time together. '

It was evident that he had spent a vast amount of time with her.

My chest-

I glanced down at myself.

But- I haven't been stabbed?-

So what was that pang in my chest just now?-

" Would you like me to call him over? " I shook my head, pushing away my thoughts.

" That won't be necessary. " I responded, turning around to return to my office.

Her spouse seemed to be quite the talented soldier.

I was with Emmeline in the break room, having a bit of tea. We had finished a while ago, and we were just about to head back to the clinic. " I will say, those earrings are so pretty. " A sly smirk was plastered on her lips.

" They are- " My voice hitched as I stood up from my seat.

" I wonder if he made them himself- " She muttered.

" That's a good question. . ." How sweet that would be.

We began to walk back to the clinic, when Emmeline's line of focus suddenly averted to her left.

" Well speak of the devil. There he is- " She nodded off in his direction. I quickly glanced over, taking note that the Captain seemed to be walking in our direction. I waved, but even though he was staring right at me, he didn't wave back. I took it as a sign that maybe he didn't want to say hello-. . .or at least- not yet- so I quickly went inside the clinic. My best assumption was that he was preparing to go on a mission, and could not afford any distractions.

My guess was proven incorrect when he marched right into the clinic. I was going to get up and greet him, but his demeanor was. . . .different from usual. He seemed troubled, and he was not happy about whatever was plaguing his mind. I felt myself sink back into my wooden stool as I took notice that his knuckles had turned white from how tight he was squeezing his fists.

" I think he's looking for you- " Emmeline nudged my shoulder with hers as I watched him look around the puddles of nurses in complete and utter irritation. I took a deep breath, getting up and immediately meeting his harsh, cold gaze.
