Chapter 2 < Darien >

"Nixie give it back!"

"If you want it come and get it!"

Nixie always took Darien's things but this time, it was his favorite dagger she had taken.

"Give it back or-"

"Or else what?" she smiled wickedly.

That's was the thing about Nixie. She was small but very clever and she knew exactly what to do to make you crazy.

Still smiling, Nixie swung the dagger over the chasm. Knowing she would expect him to throw himself at her, Darien started getting ready to freeze her. Seeing her brother's hands sparkling like glitter, Nixie quickly retracted from the chasm and started to run.

Instead of chasing her, he simply threw some ice from his hands and it stuck her feet to where she was.

With a look of astonishment and horror, Nixie turned to him and gave him a fierce glare.

"You know you can't always fix your problems like that. It's considered cheating." she spat.

Freezing her hand solid, he slipped the dagger out of her nimble fingers and walked away.

"You can't just leave me here! You know what mom will do if you do!" she called after him.

Without turning around, Darien flicked his pinky and the ice melted away from Nixie's feet.

Without hesitating, Nixie swiftly threw a ball of water at him. It hit him right in the back of the head.

"Ow!" he yelped "What the hell Nyx!"

Everyone called her Nyx. It was the name he had given her when they were kids ad it stuck. Nixie was what servants and peasants were to call her but no-one ever did.

Turning around, Darien had just enough time to duck out of the way of another flying ball of water.

"I don't have time for this Nyx." he told her. "I have to go meet Elvey."

Elvey was not only one of their faerie guards but he was Darien's best friend. They had grown up together and always trained together.

"Fine. Tell him I say hi." she muttered as she flew away.

Watching his sister go, Darien noticed she had a new sparkle on her left wing.

Ohhh.. Mom won't like that. -he thought.

As he turned to take flight, he felt a cold pulse go through his right hand. Looking down he saw that in fact his ring had started flashing.

Sending a bubble message to Elvey, Darien rushed to see his father.
