Laila's last vision before she collapsed to the floor in exhaustion was the fairy boy rushing to catch her.

As she fell to the ground, she felt all the energy drain from her body. Her head smacked to the ground and her eyes rolled to the back of her head.

As her eyelids shut, Laila remembered Kayla's small body sprawled across the floor. She hoped with all her heart that what she had done had saved Kayla and that the boy went to her aid.

Her senses were lost after a few seconds of darkness. She felt herself being lifted into the air by a pair of strong arms before she slipped into unconsciousness.

Her dream felt almost too real.

Laila was in a meadow. The sun was bright and the grass continued until the end of her line of vision.

In the meadow there was a big tree. From her memory, Laila remembered it was willow tree. Leaning on the thick trunk of the tree was Chance.

Laila stared at him. He looked different than how she had last seen him. He was in a nice white shirt that fit nicely on him and he wore black pants. His blond hair shone like crown around his face in the sun. He was barefoot and leaned on the willow lazily.

He was smiling at her in a way that made her go running towards him. He pushed away from the tree and opened his arms in a greeting hug.

As she ran to him, she thought of the time they were walking home in the rain from school together. He had grabbed her away from her school bus. He had laughed and kissed her when she had asked him where they were going. As they walked down the sidewalk, Chance had turned towards the park and had walked to the slide.

Laila had laughed and shrieked as they went down the slide. They slipped off the slide when they had reached the bottom. She landed in the mud half on top of Chance. They had laughed and laughed. He twirled her long hair in his fingers and had looked at her the way she had always wanted a boy to look at her. He had promised her he would never hurt her.

They had kissed in the rain at the park and had gotten covered in mud. They had walked home dirty, laughing and clutching each others hands as if their life would end if they let go.

When Chance had dropped Laila off at her foster home, Danielle, Laila's foster mom, had shrieked at their messy clothes and had ushered Laila inside. Laila had turned and kissed Chance before Danielle had shut the door. She'll never forget that day. Nor will she forget the way he looked as the door had separated them. His eyes were full of pain. She hadn't known why.

As she came back to her dream, Laila threw herself into his warm arms. His strong warm wrapped around her until she was holding nothing. Chance was gone and Laila was falling into darkness.

The darkness continued until she landed on hard ground. The impact didn't hurt as much as her heart did. She curled into a ball and wept. She missed Chance's warm arms wrapping around her, his sweet kisses and the way he smiled at her. She missed what he smelled like and when he would bring her on small walks. She wished she could hear him laugh again and have him hold her as she cried. Then she felt anger slip itself into her emotions.

She felt her body tighten as she clutched her legs tighter. How could he have broken his promise? She'll never forget how he had acted as Amanda weren't there when she caught them together.

She thought of Amanda. Laila knew she was evil but didn't think she could actually be a creature.

Suddenly, she felt something brush on her back. She turned to see nothing but darkness. She shivered and lay herself flat on her back and hoped for this dream to be over. A hot pulse heated her fingertips. It stay there for a few seconds before it disappeared.

Laila lay there for what felt like an eternity until something freezing and smooth touched her throat.

She screamed.

Laila woke screaming and sweaty. Her eyes shot opened as she bolted upright. Something cold was resting on her throat but it was gone now and she could still feel where it had touched her skin.

She turned her head to see a small woman with big eyes staring at her in horror. In her hand she held a small flat stone with designs printed on the side. But that wasn't what Laila froze at. The woman had wings! Wings!

Then it dawned on her. Had her experience at her school really been real? Where was Kayla?

Laila's eyes swept over the room and found Kayla laying on a bed nearby.

"Um.. Excuse me Miss?" Laila turned to look at the woman she decided was a fairy. "You must lay back down for you treatment."

The fairy reached out to put her hands on Laila but Laila jumped to her feet. She shouldn't of have done that.

The world was spinning and Laila's head pounded. She searched for something to grab hold of to stable herself and found an arm outstretched to her. She grabbed hold of the arm which guided her back to the bed. Everything was blurry but Laila knew the fairy had helped her. She lay down on the bed and looked at the figure looming above her. Her vision focused and she saw the fairy holding the stone towards her neck again. Laila cringed away from it.

"Do not worry Miss. I won't hurt you." the fairy reassured her. "My name is Fira and I'm here to help you get better."

Laila relaxed her shoulders and let Fira lay the stone on her collarbone. It sent her mind whirling into a musical dance. She closed her eyes and decided she might as well get some more sleep.

Just as she was falling asleep, the double doors of the room burst open and two men rushed in.

"What happened Fira? Is everything all right?" Laila cocked her head to the side to see the men in the doorway. She recognized them as the ones who saved her and Kayla.

The one who had caught her came towards her bed and grabbed her hand absently. "Are you all right Laila?" he asked concerned.

She looked up at him and started laughing. The boy looked at her in disbelief and dropped her hand and stepped away from her bed.

Everyone looked at her and Laila realized they must think she was crazy.

She seized her laughing and sat up. "I'm fine, thanks." she smiled.

The boys scared expression softened and he looked at his friend.

"How do you know my name?" Laila asked the question that itched at her mind.

"Your friend Kayla told us your names." the other boy said. "By the way," he continued, "My name is Elvey and this is Darien." Both boys smiled to her.

"Thank you for saving us." she muttered. "Now I would like to know where I am." Laila looked at the boys expectantly.

"You're in Borrow Castle." Darien smiled. "Welcome to the land of the Faeries Laila."
