As Darien flew around the Greater Demon, he shot his icicles at the ugly thing and between hits, he would taunt it. That was his battle strategy. Tolerance was very important when fighting. If you were weak there, you had no chance..
Darien was very good at insulting people and annoying them. Although he didn't look it, he had quite the character. He used that to his advantage most of the time.
As he shot another blade of ice into the beasts back, Darien was blinded by a strong blue light coming from behind the Demon.
It was the girl.
Her brown hair was now flowing around her and her eyes were a blazing blue. Fire churned in her hands and vines climbed along her body. She was beautiful and scary at the same time.
The Demon's sharp claws slashing across his cheek brought him back to reality. Stabbing the Demon behind the arm, Darien thought of how big of a scar he was going to have from the gash in his bleeding cheek.
All of a sudden, Darien felt a kind of tingling like the kind of thing you got when someone was watching you. He turned and saw the girl glaring at them. Probably at the Demon. She was a few feet off the ground and, as his did when he threw icicles, her hands were sparkling a fiery red in her palms.
This is not good.
He barely had enough time to think as a ball of fire shot through the air straight at the Demon's head. Another came, then another.
Darien launched himself out if the way and landed far from the flaming fiasco going on in behind him.
He stared in awe as the girl threw fire from her hands, then wind, then vines and then she flicked her wrist and water swirled around the Demon as it disappeared.
Who is she?
He was dumbfounded. This girl just killed a Greater Demon. He must be hallucinating.
But he wasn't. His thoughts were interrupted as the girl fell to the ground from exhaustion. He flew to catch her and got there right before she hit the hard floor.
He looked down at her pretty face and imagined himself kissing her awake like in Snow White but he was interrupted by Elvey calling his name.
"Darien! We have to go! NOW!" his voice was concerned but firm.
Turning to his friend he looked at him dazed. Elvey's clothes had been untouched where as his were tattered. In his hand was a piece of pink fabric that he was fiddling with.
Oh shoot.
Seeing the look on his friend's face, Elvey stated, "Don't worry. The other girl is fine. She spoke to me. Her name is Kayla and the one you're holding there.. She's Laila."
So that's her name -he thought as he looked down at her before rising to his feet.
"Well that's ironic." Darien beamed as he lifted Laila into the air. "Kayla and Laila. .The two best friends that were attacked by a Greater Demon and survived." he giggled childishly, "Kayla Laila, Kayla Laila."
Elvey rolled his eyes, "I don't get you. How can you be so happy and sarcastic when you're probably holding a dead girl."
"She's not dead." his voice was harsh.
"Okay okay. Let's go get Kayla and then we go back to Borroway Castle." Elvey said as they walked to where Kayla sat curled up in a ball, her eyes wide in horror of what just happened.
Without a word she stood and took Elvey's offered hand.
They started walking through the double doors of the entrance and Darien felt Laila stir.
