Janelle 'Janie' Noella Swan is the perfect picture of Charlie and Renee in the eyes of her grandma Swan (while her twin sister looks like Charlie). Janie has her mom's blue eyes and thin lips and face shape. She has Charlie's pale skin, his brown hair.

Janie is the twin sister of Bella Swan. She was born ten minutes before Bella, making her the clear. Bella had a few friends here in Phoenix and Janie had everyone. But the reason everyone adored her is because she's so sweet and usually her mood is contagious. If she's happy, they are. If she's mad, they are. If she's sad... well, you catch the drift.

Then the girls move to Forks, Washington to live with their dad so that their mom can travel with Phil, her new baseball player husband, and be happy and 'free', as Bella put it. Janie is all for doing whatever she must to make her mom happy. That's just who Janie is. Charlie and Renee both blame her sweetness on Grandma Swan because that was also her personality.

Bella met the Cullens and soon started dating one called Edward. Janie met the family and the only one who doesn't talk to her is Rosalie and jaspers the 'loner' type. Janie doesn't mind. But then she discovered vampires when she wanted to pick some wildflowers in the woods for Charlie and found Jasper feeding from a deer. That freaked Janie out and he felt her emotions instantly and sobered up.

The family explained vampirism and the rules to her. Janie was still scared but promised to keep their secret. It's not hers to share! It took her a long time to come around. But it was her friendship with Alice and Emmett that brought her around during prom season.

Then one day, on her and Bella's birthday, Alice throws them a birthday party that - without Alice's vision to tell her and ruin the surprise - changes Janie's life forever.
