Chapter 9: Challenge accepted

*Snoring*
Teacher: Mr. Matsuda!

Matsuda quickly jerks his head up.

Matsuda: What?! S-Sorry sensei.

Most of his classmates giggle to themselves.

Teacher: I'll let it slide for now, but please try not to disturb the class during a lesson.

Matsuda: Yes mam.

The bell then rang to release the students for the day, as it was the last period. Asia and Raynare went over to Matsuda, who could barely keep his eyes open due to immense exhaustion from the previous day.

Asia: Matsuda-kun, are you ok? Did something happen yesterday?

Raynare: Yeah, you've slept in class the whole day. Something's up.

Matsuda lifted his head just enough to look at the two.

Matsuda: Issei said that I'm allowed to sleep in class today. He trained me until around 5 in the morning, said he needs some help with a problem of his.

Asia and Raynare looked back at each other with confusion and worry written on their faces. They turned back to their friend.

Raynare: Issei has a problem? What is it?

Matsuda: Not sure. He didn't tell me, just started to train me like crazy.

Just then, Kiba appeared in the doorway. He had a serious look.

Asia: Kiba-kun, is something wrong?

Kiba: It's about Rias and Issei. President has asked me to bring you three to the club room asap.

Asia and Raynare exchanged worried looks again, and got Matsuda out of his seat. On the way, they both helped to restore Matsuda's stamina so he could function normally.

When they arrived, they saw that everyone else was already there. Most notably, Rias was sitting at her desk facing the door with Grafia standing to her left, and Issei was looking out the window in thought.

Rias: Oh, good everyone is present now. Thank you for getting them here so quickly Kiba.

Kiba: My pleasure president.

He goes to stand with everyone else on one side of the room, with the three he brought following him.

Rias speaks again to address most of those in the room.

Rias: There has been a situation that has involves both Issei and me that we have kept secret for some time now, and we believe everyone has the right to know of the details.
We-

Just then, she is interrupted by a pillar of flames that erupted on the other side of the room. Out steps a man with dirty blonde hair, a loose and creased burgundy suit and slacks, and the smuggest look in all of hell. 

???: It's been a long time since Riser has entered the human realm.

Most people in the room immediately scowled the moment the man stepped from the flames. However the new members were angry too, just more confused by who he was and way he suddenly barged in like he owned the building.

Matsuda: Who the hell is this guy?

That's when Grafia spoke out loud for the first time that the group heard.

Grafia: He is Lord Riser Phoenix, third son of the Phoenix clan. He is also Lady Rias' ex-fiancé.

Riser: For now at least.

Matsuda: Wait, what do you mean ex?

Grafia: Lord Riser is here because he and the Phoenix family have challenged her new fiancé for the right to her hand in marriage. The right currently belongs to Lord Veyron.
