Chapter 21: The letter

Tomorrow is it the day. The day when i'm gonna marry Peeta. Be Katniss Mellark.
I literally can't wait!

I'm now on my way to Haymitch and Effie's place.
Effie told me that she had a suprise for me.
I have no idea of what it could be.

I knock on the door and after a few seconds Effie opens the door.

"Hey sweetie,come on, it's upstairs." She smiles.

She seems different today.

"Okay." I say and follow her.

She walks into a room and i follow her in and close the door.

"I promised you to find a wedding dress, remember?" She asks.

"Yeah." I answer.

I had completely forgot about that!?!

She opens another door to another room. And then Effie gives me a letter.

I'm still betting on you, girl on fire.

This is from Cinna...

I open the letter.

"Dear Katniss, girl on fire, i made this to you.
I knew you were gonna choose Peeta in the end, everyone did.
So i did this to you. To your own REAL wedding.
I did it exactly after your measures so it should fit perfectly.
When you're reading this i'm probably not alive, but i don't give up.
Remember, i'm still betting on you girl on fire❤❤

Small tears streaming down my face.
But i don't make myself to start sob.
I have to stay strong.
Effie strokes her thumb on my chin and then opens the wardrobe.
And there i see the most beautiful dress i have ever seen.
It's not too much, but it's perfect.
Exactly how i want it.
My hands strokes the silky fabric.
It's white and i see a veil behind it. It's probably a few metres long.

"Do you like it?" Effie asks.

"No." I say.

She stares at me with big eyes. I smile at her and tell her.

"I love it."

She smiles back.

"I wake you up at 5 am. tomorrow. Johanna and Annie will help you to get you ready, with some help from me." She says and smiles.
"And then it is another thing Haymitch want to ask you."

"What?" I ask her concern.

"Go and ask him." She says and point downstairs.

She closes the wardrobe and we head downstairs.

"Haymitch?" I ask him when i see him in the kitchen.
ON a chair. And a suit aswell.

"Don't laugh. Annie helps me to fit in this shit." He mutters and then i see Annie under him stitch on his pants.

Haymitch asks Annie if he can come down from the chair and she accepts.

"I have something to ask you." He says and stays in front of me.

"What?" I ask. Now i really want to know.

"Your dad past away a few years ago, so do you want me to hand you over to Peeta?" He asks seriosly.

"Yes." I say and nod.

I really want him to.
He has been like a dad to me and Peeta since the first games so he's the only person i can accept to do it.

"I really want you to do." I say and hug him.

"Good." He whispers in my ear.

"Katniss, you have to go home and pack your stuff, you will sleep here tonight and Peeta in yours, i heard that you don't want to sleep alone." Effie says and points at my and Peeta's house.
