I woke up two days later to a phone call from Josh.

"I'm asleep," I mumbled.

"I hate to ask," Josh said, hesitating.

"What's up?"

"I had two call outs today."

"Okay."

"And you're feeling better right?"

I was. My cold had pretty much cleared up within a few days. I had a slight lingering cough but I wasn't feeling too shitty.

"It's my day off," I reminded him.

"And you would get to spend it with your two best friends," he said, trying to convince me.

"I really am asleep."

"Please? I'll find a way to make it up to you."

"Fine. I can be there in like an hour?"

"That's perfect. Thanks Bean!"

"You're welcome."

I took my time getting ready. I showered and washed my hair. I actually made myself something to eat. It wasn't much but still yogurt and granola is better than nothing. I finished getting ready and then headed to the restaurant.

I had always encouraged Sammy to pursue cooking. It made sense for him. The fact that Josh was willing to open and run a restaurant with him always made my heart happy. Sometimes one of them would ask me to fill in and I never really minded because I knew it meant I got to see both of them pursuing their dreams.

I parked my car near Josh's and walked to the entrance. I loved the sign on the door. I always thought the name Weight of Greens was so catchy for a vegan restaurant. I took off my jacket and hung it up on the coat rack near the hostess's desk.

"Thank you, thank you, thank you," Josh exclaimed as he greeted me.

"It's not a problem. Where do you need me?" I asked.

"Check with Sam. One of the line cooks called out. He might have it under control though."

I gave him a nod and headed for the kitchen. Sammy was putting the finishing touches to a pasta when he caught my eye.

"Hey!" he smiled at me.

"Do you need help back here or do you have it under control?"

"I got it under control," he said, waving me off.

"Has it been busy?" I asked.

"Eh. Not too bad. I bet you could be at the bar and convince Milo to wait."

"Tempting."

"Unless you want to wait."

"I'll talk to Milo."

I walked up to the bar and found Milo busy making an old fashioned.

"Lena! Hey, how are you?" he said, holding his arm out for a hug.

"I'm actually pretty good. What about you?" I asked, accepting the side hug.

"Same old, same old."

I liked working with Milo. He was a bit older than me but was always fun to work with. It helped that he was easy to look at too. He should have been a model or an actor or something. He reminded me of Oscar Isaac and Sebastian Stan rolled into one man.

"Do you want to wait or-"

"Lena! Oh, my God! Are you working today?" I heard someone cheer.

I looked over to see Annabelle approaching us. Even in black pants and a black polo she looked fashionable. It probably had a lot to do with her haircut. Plus the color. It was bleach blonde, almost white and cut short in layers around her chin.
