CHAPTER FOUR

KEECIA

The skies are already evolving from dark to pink and orange when I opened my eyes.

I rubbed my sleepy eyes and stretched a bit. My eyes suddenly widened when I realized that I'm in a car. Why am I in a car?

It was probably his because it smelled like him.

I guess I fell asleep habang bumabyahe kami. But, where are we?

I looked out the window and saw that we were at a beach. Wow, sunrise at the beach. What a sight. I don't mind waking up to this view every morning. Truly, nothing beats waking up early to a deserted beach and nature doing its thing.

I straightened in my seat to find Caine, wala kasi siya sa tabi ko. It didn't take long to find him leaning on the bumper of his Wrangler. My forehead creased when I saw smoke coming out of his mouth. Is he smoking? At this hour?

He immediately withdrew the cigarette from his lips and puffed out smoke before throwing it away in the nearest trash bin.

"Good morning, sunshine," he smiled at me, but it quickly faded when he saw me scowling. "Oh, I guess you're not a morning person."

"Do you know how harmful cigarette butts are to the environment?" I folded my arms over my chest at tinaasan siya ng kilay. "And you're not allowed to smoke on the beach!"

"Wow, you're very grumpy in the morning," natatawang saad niya. "And in my defense, wala ako sa beach when I smoked."

"Yeah... but still!" iritado kong sabi.

He raised both of his hands in defeat. "Okay! Okay! I'm sorry! Hindi na po mauulit!"

"Tss," inirapan ko siya at naglakad na papunta roon sa buhanginan. I took my shoes off before I walked down the sand.

My eyes closed the moment my feet touched the sand. I needed this. I missed this. The wind in my hair, the salt on my skin, the sound of waves crashing to the shore. God, how I love being on the beach. Ang sarap sa feeling.

Ilang sandali akong nanatiling ganon. Bumuntong hininga ako bago dumilat.
