Driver's POV

She has a kid. Like a literal human being that depends on her for all their needs and calls her mommy. Yesterday morning, I was so convinced that she was married, but the truth shook me to my core. I knew she was nervous to tell me, so I didn't show any emotion, but internally I was shitting my pants. No matter what, I will never let her go, so I meant every word I said, but throwing a kid into the mix is fucking terrifying.

A month ago I was convinced I wasn't good enough to be with her. How am I supposed to believe I'm good enough to be around her child? Surely, I'd fuck her up, just like my dad did to me.

Saturday flew by in a haze of alcohol and helping Blade work on cases. We have four court escorts coming up and one that may lead to an extraction and more colorful forms of justice. Working these cases usually gives me a sense of control over my fucked up life, but now it just increases my anxiety.

What if I turn into the very thing I hate? I mean, it's in my DNA and I grew up around it so it's clearly a possibility.

No, stop that, Driver. You would never hurt Brenna or Hazel. You are better than him, I try to remind myself as I shake the thoughts from my head.

I have to push through this. I have to get over myself so I can continue on this journey with Brenna because even though I would never say it out loud yet, I love the hell out of that woman.

"Earth to Driver," Axe laughs as he waves his hand in front of my face. The entire club is down in the bar for Sunday family dinner, a tradition that Grace started years ago.

"What?" I groan. Axe is the new prospect and is practically still a kid, so he is the stereotypical annoying little brother of the group.

"Just wanted to make sure you were still alive over there," Axe laughs.

"Yeah," I mumble in response.

"So, did everything work out with Shorty?" Wolf asks, bringing the attention back to me.

"Yeah," I reply simply.

"Well that doesn't sound good," Smoke muses with a smirk on his face.

Yeah, like that asshole would've handled this any better than me.

"She's totally married," Skillet laughs.

"No, she's not fucking married, but thanks so much for putting that in my head" I growl, annoyed we are still in this conversation.

"Then why do you look like that?" Grace asks.

"Hey I have an idea, let's find another dinnertime conversation than Driver's love life," I groan, praying they change the damn subject.

"But it's so fun," Amber whines.

"Yeah, I need some entertainment in my life," Clove laughs.

"Yeah, you and I need to talk," I reply, hoping she takes the hint.

"I already told you I can't tell you anything," she starts once again showing her loyalty to Brenna.

"How about I tell you what I know and then you give me advice?" I propose as I stand from the dinner table which is just high-top tables we pushed together to form a long line.

"Okay," she agrees as she hops down from her chair and begins to walk to the back of the bar as I follow.

Yesterday, I finally put everything together, Clove was one of Brenna's nurses when she had Hazel. Even though I'm not sure why an ICU nurse was involved in her case, it's the only thing that makes sense.
