Sick Day

Writing this with uhhh COVID apparently so it's certainly not my best work. Consider this a warmup <3 I'm also about half way into s1 of rewatching 2012 so I apologize for any inaccuracies, I'll fix them when I get further in :] takes place in s2

For Raph to not be with his brothers is no big deal—normally training in the dojo if not with his brothers on the couch. For the lair to be quiet while Raph isn't present, however, is the first thing Casey notices.

"Where's Raph?" is the first thing out of his mouth, realizing only after it's said how rude it must come across without having even greeted the rest yet. Fortunately for him, the crew doesn't seem to notice—or at least choosing not to react to it.

"Sick," they all respond collectively, annoyance in their voices, before going back to whatever they're doing. He seems to pick up that they seem more annoyed in the fact that their brother is sick than not being greeted.

"Oh, man," comes his awkward reply, jumping the back of the couch to sit a comfortable distance away from Mikey. "'S he okay?"

"Fine," Leo grumbles, not looking away from his show. "Some kind of head cold, I think."

"He's just a big baby," Donnie continues, looking up from some kind of machine he's tinkering with. "Raphael's already dramatic and over-emotional. When he doesn't feel well? Forget about it." Picking up a wrench, he gets back to tinkering as he speaks. "When we were kids, we thought he was on his deathbed the first few colds before we learned he's just being a pain."

Casey can't help but snort at the story—he can picture a very little Raphael coughing and wheezing nonstop just to put on a show for his family. After only a second or two, Mikey spoke again, dispersing the thought.

"You think that's bad?" the freckled turtle exclaims, though it doesn't seem like his brothers are listening. "Raph convinced me I was adopted when we were kids!"

It's the only thing that got Leo to turn away from the TV in the moment, even Donnie stopped mid-crank, both to give their younger brother a dumbfounded look.

"Mikey," says Leo after a brief pause, "you were adopted. We were all adopted."

"We came from a pet store, if you recall," Donnie adds, going back to wrenching and sparing the fact that they were most likely bought rather than adopted.

Casey can almost see realization exclamation marks go over the youngest's head, similar to an anime or certain cartoons.

"Oh, yeah!" and Casey can't help but laugh at the trio—he's not like this with his sister.

"Since we're on the topic of the big baby," he interrupts after his brief laughing fit, "is he in his room?"

While Donnie and Mikey chorus their own affirmatives, he only really pays attention to Leo, who nods numbly.

"I think he'd be happy to see you," the leader adds, back to being laser-focused on his cartoon. Casey only smiles at that, even though he isn't seen, before taking off to see his grumpy boyfriend.

Raph, meanwhile, has had a splitting headache all day and had been trying to sleep for the past few hours when Casey knocks on the door, and he groans loudly at the sound.

"What?" he shouts irritably, ready to scold whoever's on the other side. He softens immediately, however, seeing his partner slink into his room with something of a playful smirk.

"Your brothers are right," the human teases, scooping the turtle into a hug when he reaches him, "you're very dramatic when you're sick."

"Shut up," Raph mumbles half heartedly into his shoulder, breaking away from the hug to lie back down a few seconds later. Once his head hits the pillow, Casey strokes his head soothingly, easing the headache a tad and making him a little more sleepy.

"Feelin' any better?" asks the hockey player softly, watching the reptile relax against his touch. Raph's response is only a grunt, causing Casey to give a humored snort.

"My head hurts so bad I can't sleep," Raph continues. "I'd been trying for maybe 2 hours before you showed up. My throat kinda hurts"—and it's obvious in his voice, a little strained and more gravelly—"and I've been coughing and sneezing occasionally. Not horrible, though not great. My head is the worst of it."

Casey hums thoughtfully, still softly stroking his boyfriend's head, then lies down next to him—the arm attached to the hand petting him getting wrapped around the turtle, facing the back of his shell.

"Anything I can do for you?"

It's Raph's turn to hum in thought, then turns to face him—and Casey lifts his arm for a moment until he settles back down—when he has a response.

"Just keep doing what you're doing," he says softly, closing his eyes and nuzzling into the human's chest. "I like this right now."

Casey can't help but chuckle a bit at how absolutely adorable Raph looks in his arms right then.

"Anything for you, babe."

There's def more I want to add, I'm just not finding a way to actually end it with those ideas </3 anyway here's a short little thing with the best I can rn, I've got some other drafts I'll be working on too :] I started writing this a few days ago so I could try to bust this out early into the new year and while not as early as I'd like here it is ! I hope this turned out ok + I'm excited to have this going again <33
