it's been a few months since I moved in. Janis and Ray have really grown on me. They treat me better than any home I've ever been in. I try to be respectful but don't want them to think we will have a relationship. I would just drag them down.
Todd and I have also grown a lot. He, Sal, Larry, Neil, we all spend a lot of time together, I have been avoiding sal though, I will admit. I just can't be alone with him or sit next to him or talk to him and not be a cunt. He makes me feel vulnerable and I don't even know, he makes me feel things that I don't understand so I act differently around him, I'm mean and sarcastic and cold. But he respects my distance, but I can always feel his eyes burning into me. Like a guardian angel but with more tension.
-sals POV-
Lisa invited me over for dinner tonight, this isn't anything new but the way she approached it was. She called. Normally I would just stay and eat or she would come into Larry's room and ask if I was staying. It was weirdly formal. I brush off the weird feeling. I grab the towel and wrap it around my waist, sliding my mask on I walk to my room. I open the door and see a small body bend over my bed digging through stuff. She turns around when she hears the creaky door.
"Have you seen my phone?" She asks and she continues to dig through my things. I laugh and walk into the living room, grabbing it off the table.
"If you would drink less, you would stop losing things" I throw the phone in her direction. She catches it between her hand and her chest. She laughs.
"Thanks" she begins to turn away, "nice towel" she exits snickering. I laugh, those are basically the only responses I get from her, short snarky ones, or flirty drunk ones, she is the poster child for bad attitudes. I continue getting ready and head for Larry's apartment, I wonder what she is making for this odd occasion. I open the door and see the table set for 4, 2 seats on each side. Food is already on the plates of two right next to each other, Larry sees me.
"Hey Sallyman, sit across from me, mom wants to sit across from her."
"Who?" I question wondering if Ashley is back from her family home. Larry seems not to have heard me, I sit down and Lisa grabs my plate and the one next to it and smiles, and begins placing food on them.
"It looks amazing Lisa, thank you, but who's is" I get cut off by the door opening.
"Sorry I'm late Lisa, I had to find something nice to wear, I'm living out of my duffle still" Ace smiles and walks in. Are they surprising her with it today? Her smile drops when she sees me. I guess we both weren't expecting each other. A smile hops back onto her face but it definitely isn't genuine. She quickly sits down and greets each of us. Why does she do that, why do I take her smile away? Why does she pretend like I don't? Lisa starts the conversation.
"you have avoided me this long, plum, I missed you" She smiles and puts her hand on top of Ace's. Ace returns the smile slightly. "How did you end up here?" She asks politely
"I came from a group home in Mankato" she takes a sip of her water, "I got transferred for school infractions, they thought I would be better off in a more private home" She avoids eye contact with me and Larry, only looking at Lisa's forehead.
"Why were you in a group home to begin with? I understand your mom has passed, and bless her heart but where did your father go? ". Ace visibly stiffens, her face is still neutral but her eyes, are glossy, Is she going to cry?
"He was incarcerated when I was 8," She says very maturely, she typically doesn't talk like this, but she sounds like a robot. From what I understand, even Janis and Ray don't know what happened to her parents. I woke up on the couch one morning in Todd's apartment and overhead Lisa asking Janis all kinds of questions bout Ace's parents and Janis had no definite answers. Lisa moves on from the family topic and begins to ask Ace about herself.
"So are there any special men in your life" She winks and laughs quietly. Ace laughs and smiles the fakest I have ever seen her do.
"I have a boyfriend, Alexi, We have been dating for almost 2 years". I didn't know she had a boyfriend, Is that who she is always on the phone with?
