Ch. 12 Bella isn't home

Edward speed runs through the forest to Swan's residence. He stopped running and looked forward, spotting Bella's red-orange truck on the driveway. He noticed that Charlie's police cruiser wasn't in the driveway, which let him know that the Swan Patriarch wasn't home.

Edward turned his gaze to the window that led into Bella's bedroom and saw it was closed and covered. He looked at his surroundings and saw no one.

' I have to check up on Bella.' Edward internally speaks. He speeds-runs to the tree near the window. His hands grasped the lower part of the window and frowned when it wouldn't budge, letting him know it got locked.

' Why would Bella lock her window?' Edward internally asked. He begins to knock on it. " Bella?" He called out, but there was no response.

" Bella?" Edward continued, but no one responded.

Edward frowned, getting worried. He speed-runs to the back of the house, spots Charlie's toolbox, and opens it. He pulls out a screwdriver and sets the toolbox outside.

' Bella would understand that I am only here to check on her.' Edward internally speaks while unlocking the back door with the screwdriver.

Edward puts the screwdriver away and enters the house. He gently closed the door and walked towards the living room, seeing the TV off and no one in sight. He turns to the stairs, walks up, and stands outside Bella's bedroom.

" Bella?" Edward softly calls out. " It's me, Edward. Your window got locked, so I came inside. I wanted to see how you were doing." He spoke.

" Bella?" Edward opens the door and looks forward, seeing no one in the bedroom.

" Bella?" Edward called and entered the bedroom. He frowned since Bella's smell was faint to him. He turned around and saw that her closet was open, but no clothes were inside.

Edward's golden eyes widened, looking at the opened closet with mixed emotions.

' Alice said that she saw Charlie taking Bella out of Forks, and he returned to Forks without her.' Edward internally speaks. ' Where did he take her? Why didn't she tell me that she was leaving Forks?' He begins to panic.

" Bella? Why would you take all of your clothes?" Edward asked, looking hurt.

" Edward." A masculine voice speaks, grabbing Edward's attention. He turned to the sound and saw Jasper and Emmett outside Bella's bedroom.

" What are you guys doing here?" Edward asked.

" I'm here because Rosalie wants you home," Emmett responded. " He's here for emotional support." He glanced at Jasper.

" Alice saw that you were freaking out," Jasper explained.

" I'm only freaking out because Bella isn't home!" Edward exclaimed. " Look! All of her clothes are gone." He motioned to the open closet.

Emmett and Jasper entered the bedroom and looked at the open closet, seeing no clothes inside.

" Maybe. Bella is spending the whole day at a laundromat." Emmett tried to calm Edward's nerves.

Jasper looked at Emmett as though he was an idiot.

" Alice said that Charlie took Bella out of Forks, and he returned without Bella." Edward frowned.

" Maybe Bella is having a long slumber party at a friend's house or something." Emmett looks at Edward and Jasper.

" Bella is injured, Emmett. She should be in her room recovering. Not going to another place to recover." Edward shakes his head. " How will I know she's alright or needs something?" He asked, brushing his bronze-colored hair with his right hand.

Jasper's golden eyes intently stared at Edward, causing the other Vampire to calm down.

" Jasper. You didn't need to do that. As her mate, it is my right to get worried about her safety." Edward shakes his head.

" Maybe when Charlie is home from work. You can call him and ask how Bella is doing. As her father, he must know where Bella is and how she's doing." Emmett looks at Edward.

Edward looked at Emmett with mixed emotions.

" Now, let's go home because I do not want Rose to be waiting." Emmett walks towards Edward and lightly pats his back.

Edward sighed, feeling frustrated. He nodded, thinking it was best to call Charlie when he got home from work.

" Alright. Let's go home." Edward walks out of the bedroom with Emmett and Jasper.

At the Quileute tribe in La Push, Bella sat at the dining table, eating her food with Billy, Sam, Paul, and Jared. She listened to the men laugh whenever Paul said something hilarious. Her gaze softened, somehow feeling at ease with them even though it had been so long since she last interacted with them.

" Hey, Bells!" Paul calls out, grabbing Bella's attention.

" Hm?" Bella hummed in response.

" What was Phoenix like?" Paul asked.

Bella stared at Paul with mixed emotions. Hearing the word, Phoenix reminded her of what James did to her.

Jared's dark eyes blinked when he sensed Bella getting uncomfortable. He turned his gaze to Bella and saw tears welling up in her chocolate-brown eyes.

' Did the Cold Ones hurt Bella at Phoenix?' Jared internally asked.

" Hey. Where is your Mom currently living?" Jared asked, changing the subject.

Bella's chocolate brown eyes blinked. She turns her gaze to Jared and sees him smiling at her.

" She lives in Jacksonville, Florida, with my stepfather," Bella responded.

Jared's dark eyes widened, looking at Bella in disbelief. " Your Mom got remarried!" He dramatically shouts.

Bella amusingly giggled. " Yeah. She did. He's a good guy. He's a minor league baseball player." She responded.

Paul turns his gaze to Sam. " Did I say something bad?" He mouths out, causing Sam to look at Billy.

" I forgot to mention that Bella got hurt in Phoenix." Billy softly responded, which Sam, Paul, and Jared heard.

" I was thinking about visiting my Mom in Jacksonville after I recover." Bella plays with her half-eaten food.

Jared looks at Bella. " If you want someone to go with you. I don't mind going. I have always wanted to travel out of Washington." He brightly smiled.

Bella looked at Jared and smiled, feeling touched that he was willing to travel out of Washington with her to visit her mother.

" If you aren't busy. I do not mind the company." Bella nodded.

" I know my Boss wouldn't mind me getting a few days or a week or two off." Jared sneakily glanced at Sam.

Sam amusingly stared at Jared and briefly nodded. He thought it was a good idea for Jared and Bella to leave the tribe once Bella recovers to get to know one another personally and away from the Cold Ones.
