13: a covetous youth
Alt. Title: "It's not my fault why I decided that you already lived long enough."

Okkotsu Yuuta was highly intelligent.

The subtle touches and out of the blue intimate request of hugs were a part of his plan to make Shihori get used to him in close ranges. Holding hands worked out, right? It only took a few weeks of execution for Shihori to get used to his touches.

Every time Yuuta observed his Shihori's reaction, he felt giddy inside. At first, the nurse would still make faces at him whenever Yuuta asks for a hug or whenever their skin touches. Nowadays, Shihori wouldn't even react, as if he didn't notice how close Yuuta had gotten to him.

Every time Yuuta wanted to eat, he would ask Shihori if they could eat outside or, if he was in the mood, Shihori could make something in the apartment.

Speaking of apartments, when they first arrived in Africa, Shihori was supposed to rent two rooms instead of one big room. At that time, his Shihori's decision displeased him. Even when Yuuta tried to hint at the other to rent one room, the nurse didn't budge. In the end, Yuuta ended up purposely getting injured on a mission.

Just to have the chance to be in the same room as Shihori.

Lo and behold, they've been staying together for the past few months.

Unfortunately, the room had two beds. Yuuta was hoping they could sleep in the same bed right off the bat but his wishes were denied. Then again, he was already happy that his plan was going well. Sleeping in the same bed could wait.

He would take baby steps to win Shihori over. And if things suddenly took a turn for the worst, well, there was a reason Yuuta wanted to grow stronger. Sometimes, strength and power solved problems that wits and smarts could never.

"Yuuta-kun, breakfast is ready." The daydreaming Yuuta snapped out of it the second he heard Shihori calling. Leaving the bedroom, the first thing that greeted him was his Shihori in an apron.

Yuuta wanted to hug him.

But he restrained himself from doing so. After all, if he keeps doing the same thing again and again continuously, Shihori would notice his weird behaviour.

Patience.

It was something Yuuta didn't lack.

"Good morning, Shihori-san." The youth's lips curved into a harmless smile. To an outsider, Yuuta was the child any parent would wish to have. In Yua Shihori's eyes, Yuuta was exactly that sort of child.

"We'll be submitting the documents to the authorities later. I remember you don't have any more missions after this one, right?" Before they left for Africa, it was Satoru who handed the missions to Yuuta. If that numbskull overworked this child, that narcissist better pray his bladder would still be functional after Shihori was done with him.

Yuuta sat down in the dining room, taking in the mouthwatering smell of Shihori's craft. "Yes, this is the last one. Sensei said that I have a month off after this."

After setting the table, the two of them began eating. There was a hot cup of chocolate by Yuuta's side and a hot cup of brewed coffee by Shihori's. The cluttering of utensils filled the morning air, accompanying the fresh and light smell of breakfast.

The nurse took a sip of coffee. "So, what do you want to do during your break?"

Upon hearing that question, Yuuta froze in an instant. "Why do you ask, Shihori-san?"

Across the youth, Yua Shihori arched an eyebrow, a bemused smile following right after. "We're abroad and you don't even think about sightseeing? It would be a waste of time and money if we're just cooped up in the apartment, you know?"
