23: gojo and zenin
Alt. Title: when an arrogant satoru met an equally arrogant shihori.
.
More than ten years ago...
"Zenin Shihori but for you, call me young master."
"Ha? I'm the young master here. Why do I have to call you that?"
"Duh, because I'm obviously far better than you."
Sparks flew as Gojo Satoru and Zenin Shihori glared at each other. Satoru sneered, crossing his arms over his chest. "Listen, pipsqueak, I'm obviously the stronger one between us. Why do I have to make friends with someone like you anyway?"
On the other hand, Shihori rolled his eyes and turned his head to the side. "That's my question. Why do I have to make friends with an old rat like you?"
Satoru: "Who are you calling old rat?! How does my handsome face look like an old rat?!"
Shihori: "Why don't you look in the mirror properly and not be biased?! You're so full of yourself, ugly!"
Satoru: "Full of myself? I'm just telling the cold hard truth! Face the facts, shrimpy, I'm gonna be the future stongest!"
Shihori: "Who the fuck wants that stupid title anyway?! You're just making yourself look dumber by saying that!"
When Satoru heard the younger child curse so loud and without restraint, he was taken aback and it left him speechless.
The servants watching by the side tried their best not to laugh or coo at the two children. Who wouldn't find a five-year-old and a seven-year-old arguing funny? But they, too, were surprised when they heard the little Zenin curse without a hint of modesty.
.
.
That was the very first time Gojo Satoru and Zenin Shihori met.
A seven-year-old and a five-year-old geniuses butted heads the first time they spoke to each other. Each one carrying heavy disdain for the other. Shihori, though not brought up as the heir of his clan, was proud and confident. He disliked others looking down on him, both literally and figuratively.
Gojo Satoru was raised as the future heir, the pride and arrogance of someone of his stature ran along smoothly in his veins. He wasn't someone who would lower himself just to cater others.
But right now?
He had to deal with this brat who kept throwing tantrums at him.
Shihori: "What's this disgusting thing? I want beef."
Satoru: "It's seafood. Don't be such a baby."
Just as he was about to lose his cool, Shihori asked him a question that made him swallow back the words of insults he wanted to say.
"What's seafood?"
When Satoru observed the other carefully, he found genuine curiosity in that pair of green eyes that stared at him widely.
"There's food from the sea?"
His lips parted, the sarcastic answer at the tip of his tongue, but Satoru couldn't bring himself to say any more. A complex feeling brewed in his heart, looking conflicted as how to answer his so-called friend. However, in the end, Satoru ended up huffing and grumbled under his breath.
"Just try it. It doesn't taste that bad."
"How do you even eat this?"
Shihori pointed at the bowl of buttered shrimp, lines forming between his eyebrows. "It looks... weird. Can you really eat this?"
