Happy New Year!
Here is a short bonus story that I thought of last night, but truthfully, I was much too wasted to write it then. I wanted to post it before midnight in my time zone, but as the night went on, the possibility of that happening dwindled further and further 😂
Please take note, this short story happens at some point in the future, and it does not tie in with where we currently are in the story.
Enjoy! ❤️
Every New Years Eve in Pelican Town, everyone gathers in the town square for a buffet to ring in the new year together. Gus serves food and beverages, and people commune together to reminisce on the memories they've made that year. Music plays from the large speakers that are used at every Flower Dance, so people can dance and sing together.
Happily dancing alone in the center of the square, you see your blue haired friend.
"Happy New Year, Emily!" you chime happily over the music.
She's unresponsive.
Sam and Penny slowly sway back and forth to the beat of the music. The look of true love glimmering in their green eyes melts your heart, their smiles are radiant. The bright blue seashell pendant around Penny's neck glistens against the light from the street lamps. They look so happy, you remark.
Elliott joyfully twirls Leah around, having to catch her as she drunkenly trips over her own feet, laughing gleefully.
Evelyn and George even seem especially happy tonight. You'd figured the old grump wouldn't be too thrilled about staying awake this late, but he wears a wide smile across his face as he holds his wife's hand.
You feel Sebastian's arm wrap around your waist. You glance up to meet his gaze, and he smiles down at you, placing a soft kiss against your forehead. "It's been a great year, (Y/N). I'm sure next year will be even better."
Ten seconds 'til midnight, the town counts down together. You can't help but think about how just a few years ago, you had your whole life packed into boxes. You were getting ready to make the biggest decision of your life - moving to Stardew Valley to take over the family farm.
"Ten!" the town shouts in unison.
I've come so far since then.
"Nine!"
I learned how to care for a farm.
"Eight!"
I've made so many friends.
"Seven!"
I loved, and I lost.
"Six!"
But, ultimately, I know one thing is certain.
"Five!"
Everything worked out exactly the way it was supposed to.
"Four!"
And even though moving here was the hardest thing I've ever done...
"Three!"
I wouldn't change a single thing.
"Two!"
With Sebastian and my friends by my side...
"One!"
There's nothing that I can't do.
"Happy New Year!" everyone yells together.
Sam places a gentle kiss against Penny's lips.
Leah wraps her arms around Elliott's neck, pulling him into a sloppy kiss.
Marnie and Lewis share a brief kiss behind a bush next to the river, where they think nobody is watching them.
Shane carries Jas on his hip, despite how big she's grown over the years. He places a fatherly kiss against her forehead. Jas wraps her arms around him and closes her eyes.
"I love you, Uncle Shane," she says sleepily.
"I love you, kiddo," he says, while softly rubbing her back. "Happy New Year."
Sebastian gently places his fingers along your jaw, guiding your gaze towards him. You meet his mercury eyes, and he gives you a tender smile. "Let's make this year the best one yet."
"Together," you promise, as you move to caress his face with your thumb.
Your eyes flutter closed as Sebastian pulls you in for a kiss.
"Together."
