Trigger Warnings: Descriptions of blood and violence

It was cold. Why was it so cold? Wait, you think to yourself, I feel warmth now. You open your eyes and see a blur of dim light, rocking violently as the brief warmth surrounding you dwindles. Cold water sparks on your skin, salt burning your tongue. The wind was harsh, and massive bodies of water relentlessly crashed beside you, as you realised you were on a boat. You look up, meeting with a pair of [e/c] eyes, the only thing clear in the harsh movements around you.

You hear voices turn the corner, followed by a swift movement and a blur, reminding you of the bursts of speed you would use yourself. You heard soft muttering above from the woman who held you close and soft rocking that mingled with the harsh movements around us. It was like that for a long time, swift movements when someone approached, mixing with the smooth voice of the [e/c] eyed woman in front of you. Her figure was blurry, but she seemed familiar somehow.

Suddenly, we came to a halt, and you heard voices of men shouting as the harsh waves started to fade. You felt another swift movement, more powerful than before, and you saw that you were no longer on a boat, but instead, you could feel pricks of sand sting the side of your face. You look around and see the light of the moon in the distance and soft mutterings between the woman who held you and an unknown man, before another blur of movement. Harsh whispers were thrown in the air by the man, "Go," and the women held you tightly as you heard the familiar gallop of a horse and shouting and gunshots that pursued us.

The images turned into a haze as the harsh wind mingled with steady trots and a mix of terrains. It was like that for hours, just you and the woman, flashing before your eyes. But, as you saw the light of the sun slowly mingle with the sight of trees and an expanse of green, you heard the woman shout in terror as the undeniable blur of a Titan approached you...

.....

You wake up swiftly and find yourself lurching back to reality. You let out a sigh of relief as you realised it had just been a dream. You find yourself frowning. You've been having the same dream for years, and yet you cannot decipher what they mean; are they a memory? Only one thing you know for certain is that the smell of salt and the cold and uncontrollable rocking was that of an ocean. You had come across a book while in the Underground. Books were hard to come by down there, harder than food and water, as education was sparse. It had been lying in the dirt, left unattended as you and Levi had been walking down a street on the way back from another heist.

You had picked it up, the book almost tearing apart. Levi had told you to put it down, scrunching his face in disgust, but you had held onto it. Despite your lack of knowing what the strange characters in the book meant due to a lack of learning to read, you had turned the page to come across a page less torn than the others and finally was able to read the title above a drawing of an open sky and big body of water, 'The Ocean.' The strange image reflected that of the dream, but instead of the calm waves depicted on the page in front of you, your dreams were more violent and dangerous.

Deciding you were done thinking about your recurring dream, you jumped off your bed, looking up to Isabel, who was still sprawled across the top bunk, sleeping soundly. You smile at her, drool on her lips. She seemed so carefree even as she slept, so at peace; you can't remember the last time you slept as soundly as she did. Looking out the window, you realised the sun had yet to rise, but knowing you probably wouldn't be able to get back to sleep now, you got ready for the day ahead, knowing it would be a long one.

.....

The sun rose, and the sky turned from black to blue with the bustling Scouts that surrounded us. We had already mounted our horses, now lined up before the entrance of a wall seconds away from departing the safety they provided. In the distance, you heard a bell ring as though proclaiming the start of the journey outside the walls and another step towards freedom... or did the ominous ring proclaim something different? You could only hope it was the former. Suddenly, you felt something brush against you and looked up to see that Levi had approached, his body tense as ever as he rode upon his horse. He looked into your eyes, and you knew he saw worry in them but also fierce determination. "Stay close," you barely heard it over the sound of the Commander shouting some proclamation of hope and the power of humanity. However, before you could reply, you were off, riding into the glow of the sun before you.
