You look down below, spotting newer Scouts along with Marlo, a boy who helped you months earlier when the Scouts were on the run. They tugged your horses along looking for a place to tie them, fear evident on their faces. Two Titans approach them from the distance and you whip your way through the air. In one fast movement, they had fallen to the floor. "Captain [y/n]..." Marlo looks up to you in surprise before you shout down to them quickly. "Quickly, move the horses to the west!" They shout out in confirmation as Levi lands on a roof nearby. He meets your eyes for an instant before you're off again. You'd killed so many Titans, preventing many casualties on the scene. The Scouts that surround you struggle with the small Titans, nowhere near the strength you need but you push on.

You slice through napes again and again and again. How many had you killed? You honestly didn't know. All you knew was that speed was of the essence, and fortunately, it was your specialty. You turn upwards, slicing through the nape of a four-meter Titan before setting off again. Erwin looks down on your work commendably. He would've expected to have lost many Scouts in this battle, weaker Scouts dying without so much as their first Titan kill. However, your form whizzed by on the scene and he had only maybe seen two or three casualties, vastly less than expected. What's more, your efforts help prevent Levi from losing his gas or energy, essential in killing the Beast Titan.

You pant slightly as you continue, now much more aware of the Beast Titan's eyes on you. You're close to him now, on the outskirts of the houses and you look to see the way his gaze does not falter as he stares your way. You shiver outwardly. What a creep. But as you go to fling yourself to another rooftop, you hear a deafening roar. The shout of a Titan echoed through the air. You pause, looking back then turning your gaze back to the Beast Titan. It now holds a barrel in its hand as it goes into a strange stance and then flings the barrel in the air. It flies far overhead, you watch as it goes over the wall to the side where yours and Hange's Squad would be, fighting Reiner. It can't be... in that barrel... could it be... Bertholdt?

You have no time to think as you kill several more Titans on your descent back to the walls, saving countless more Scouts. However, you come to a halt and pause when soon enough you see an explosion blast through the sky. You feel your heart drop, and you feel the tremor of the ground beneath you, causing you to grasp on tightly to the roof you stand on. There is an immense glow that seeps past the walls from the other side, lighting up the blue of the early daybreak. Hange... everyone... were they okay? Smoke rises from the other side but you don't falter. It had been several minutes since you started killing Titans, and only very few linger in the streets.

You look up, and sure enough, Erwin has an arm high in the air, a signal for you to go to him. Meeting eyes with Levi briefly, he nods; the path had been paved, and he would be able to go to the Beast Titan with much less interference. The other Scouts, those you had saved, and those within the squads would continue to kill the Titans that lingered, but it should be much less of an issue now. You break eye contact after the silent exchange and go past the houses that surround you before attaching yourself to the wall before you. You can't shake the eyes of the Beast Titan though as it observes as Erwin signals you back to him. 'Impressive, she's almost killed all of them and saved so many of her subordinates... So that's [y/n]...'

A moment passes.

Just one second.

Your feet touch the top of the wall and you turn to Erwin, about to refill your gas tanks and assist your squad on the other side; the squad you hoped was still alive. But that instant never comes. Suddenly you hear the noise of something ricochet, getting louder, and louder. It was like thunder thrumming in your eardrums. You turn from Erwin's horrified gaze and look down below. Your face mirrors Erwin's as your eyes scour the scene. Debris rose from where the remains of abandoned homes used to stand. Among the dirt and gravel turned upwards and muffling the clarity of the view below, was the tint of red, staining the air. Your gaze now turns forward and you realise, the Beast Titan had thrown a shower of rocks at the Scouts, its eyes somehow still looking at yours.
