There was a knock and then another, but no one came to the door. Puzzled, the woman outside Lucas' door opened it to see the teen sleeping soundly. She sighed and closed the door and went down the hall to her son's room. She knocked on his door and waited patiently.
"Come in!" the other yelled. The woman on the other side opened the door and stepped inside. Her son was reading a book on his bed, not even paying attention to his mother waiting for him to put the book down. She cleared her throat.
"Alex can you put the book down please?" Alex sighed and set the book down, "Thank you. Now this weekend I am going to New York to visit some relatives. . Honestly, I don't know how long I'll be gone for, but I will call every once in a while. Okay?" Alex only nodded his head in response. His mother sighed and shook her head in disappointment, but she didn't leave the room right away. She watched her son for a few moments as he started reading his book again. He completely ignored her. He didn't even realize she was still there. She left soon after that and made her way downstairs.
Where did she go wrong with that child? Did she not raise him right? Or was there something in his mind that doesn't make him act the way when he was a small child. No, that last thought was idiotic for someone to think, even to her. There was nothing in his mind that could make him act a certain way. She was sure of it. Then why the hell does he ignore her all the time? Whatever it was, she knew that she wasn't the cause of it. She scoffed and made her way into the kitchen, where her good friend was sitting.
"Trouble, Rose?" Charles asked and waited. When she didn't respond right away he sighed impatiently, "Was it Lucas? I swear that boy needs a good freaking beating. I'm sure he would listen then." Mortified, Rose gasp and shook her violently back and forth.
"No! It wasn't Lucas! He was fast asleep! It was Alex, he ignored me again and I was just thinking. That's all..." Charles didn't believe her.
"I think you 'ought to know that I can tell when you're lying or not. You don't need to defend that boy, he already knows the consequences. I think I need to remind him of that," he said and stood from his chair. "I'll be back. Stay here and continue of what you were doing," before she could even protest, Charles left and headed up the stairs.
Lucas shifted in his sleep once again. He was partially awake, but not fully quite yet. He buried his face into his pillow and inhaled deeply. Lucas wanted to stay that way for a while and not really think about anything. Well, that was until his father burst through his freaking door. His first reaction was to just ignore him like he always did until he finally went away, but that didn't really work most of the time. If he was lucky it would, but if he wasn't well...
"Did you do something?" his father bellowed.
"Huh?" Lucas asked sleepily and sat up.
"Did you do something to Rose?" his father asked again impatiently. Lucas gave him a puzzled look, until he realized who 'Rose' was. It was the woman.
"Nah, I didn't do anything to your 'friend'," he got slapped. Lucas glared at his father and yelled, "What the hell is wrong with you?! I didn't do anything I freaking swear! I was just freaking sleeping! How the hell would I do something to that woman?!" Charles slapped him again.
