I didn't realize something was wrong until Grell fell to his knees and coughed out blood. I screamed. "GRELL!" I ran to him. He swayed, looked at me, then fell down. Not getting up. "Grell!" I screamed at him again. I ran faster. When I got to him, he was rolling onto his back, trying to get up at the same time. "N-no, stay down, Grell!" I gently forced him back down, panicking. I slashed and threw my scythes at the still aggressive Records.
"L-Luce..?" Grell reached a hand towards me. I had finished off the Records, so I went to him, knelt by him, and held his hand tightly. "I-I was t-trying to w-wave to you..." That's when I realized it. When I saw him get hit-or rather, impaled- his hand was up, as if he were trying to wave. Tears flooded my eyes and I tried to blink them away.
"You should have paid attention, you idiot! You could get killed that way!" I quickly regretted my words as soon as I looked at him. There was blood staining both his red coat and his other clothes. I knew the worst of the wounds was really inside his body, but I knew he was in extreme pain outside, too. Then, I looked at his face. It was awful. There was blood running down his mouth, he was extremely pale, and his glasses were cracked.
"L-Lucille-" He tried to say something, but ended up coughing out more blood. He groaned, starting to lose his eyes. I screamed, "No! Don't close your eyes! Please, Grell! Don't!" That must have scared him because his eyes widened and the grip on my hand tightened painfully. "I-I need William," I thought out loud. I heard running behind me, and I became afraid it was someone random who had seen everything. Reapers had to stay secret.
"Lucille! What's going on?" It was William. I nearly burst into tears as I took off my jacket, pressing it against Grell's chest, trying to stop the blood from flowing out. He was bleeding out quickly. I turned to William, who was now kneeling next to me, his own face going pale.
"Records," is all that came out when I tried to explain. Grell tried to sit up, but I pushed him down again. "No," I quietly said, my hand brushing hair out of his face. "Don't m-move much." My voice was wavering. "We need to get him to a hospital, do Reapers have that?" William looked nearly agitated, but he stayed looking shocked and pale. He nodded, picking Grell up off the ground, pressing my jacket against him. Grell winced and looked like he was about to scream until he looked at me. He managed a small grin, then, his eyes closed and he went limp in William's arms. I covered my own mouth to keep myself from screaming. William touched my arm gently and we were quickly in another white building. This kind of building I recognized. A hospital.
"Come on, we need to hurry." William had already started walking. A nurse started to grab William's arm, then she saw Grell. She led us to a hospital room, calling a doctor on the way. The nurse directed William to put Grell on the bed, and William nearly hesitated. He put Grell down anyway, his usually emotionless expression starting to crack, his eyes looking glassy. The nurse told us to leave just as the doctor walked in and William didn't object. He walked straight out, not looking at Grell the entire time.
I, on the other hand, tried to run to Grell, screaming, "Grell!" The doctor held me back and eventually managed to get me out of the room and to where William was. I immediately burst into tears, surprising both myself and William by hugging him. William didn't react for a moment then hugged me back. He had broken; there were tears falling down his face. He had made no sound, but I could feel the tears fall onto my head. We sat that way for awhile.
I fell asleep amid the tears, waking up only when the doctor came by and shook my shoulder, telling me we could see Grell now. I quickly started to get up, turning to William. He had fallen asleep as well. I shook his shoulder gentler than the doctor shook mine, and William opened his eyes in confusion. It took one look from me for him to stand up and start walking quickly to the hospital room. I couldn't wait to see Grell. When I looked at William as we walked to the room, I could tell he couldn't either.
