Adalyn's POV
We are frantic. The basement door mysteriously closed on us, trapping us with the tiny porcelain nightmares. No one can hear our screams. They start giving up hope of getting out of here tonight, but I got them into this mess, so I am determined to get them out.
I look around the twisted aisles trying to find another way out; these "haunted" houses usually have some sort of secret escape. There is nothing else to go off of at this point.
"I want to get out of this hell hole," Brie screams, still shaking, Kaia embracing her, trying to calm her down.
I have the idea that maybe there is an exit behind one of the shelves jammed against the back wall. We aren't leaving here if we don't try something. I hold on to the contraption, struggling to move it. It is much heavier than I anticipate, and the cramped space is not helping. When the other girls pick up on what I am trying to do, they come over to help, except Brie who is glued to the same spot.
We aren't very athletic people, so this activity is a lot harder to do, and it isn't your run-of-the-mill Ikea shelf, it is made of pure steel. It is budging slowly but surely with all our efforts. A few dolls fall from the top shelf and shatter as we shift the tall surface off of the brick.
"Do you all need help? You look like you're struggling." Brie has moved from her spot at the bottom of the stairs and is standing close enough to make fun of us having a hard time moving this.
"Are you going to help?" Elara questions, exhausted.
"Well...no, just wanted to know." Brie gives an innocent smile, and tries to stifle a laugh.
"Glad to know you're feeling like yourself again." I roll my eyes at her, knowing she asked that question just to tease us.
The shelf is far enough off the wall for me to see the back, but unfortunately there is nothing there. JUST FLAT WALL.
"So no way out, that's just great. We're gonna die down here, and it's all your fault."
"Calm down Kaia, we are not gonna die. I'm going to get us out of here."
The loud sound of porcelain breaking echoes in the room, causing us to run towards it. A doll, in the corner on the other side lay in pieces on the ground in front of us.
"Okay, that's just plain weird," Elara comments. It leaves us with the question of how it even happened if we were all together. Is there something down here with us?
My gaze moves upward when I notice something hidden on the ceiling. I flash my light in that direction, to find our only way out at the moment.
"A trap door!" Lila shouts in relief.
We are going to get out of here.
"Someone needs to go up there and open the door from the outside." All our heads turn to look at Brie who is playing with the sleeves on her shirt, clueless as to what is going on. She looks at us in confusion, then realises what she has to do. "Brie?"
