Brie's POV

It is the first day of kindergarten. I am so scared. I want to stay at home and play with my stuffed animals all day. I refuse to leave the house.

I sit in a corner and throw a tantrum until Ashton comes and sits next to me, taking me in his arms. "Brie, you'll be fine. I remember for my first day I did the same thing, but I still went."

"Really? What did you do?" I ask as I wipe the tears from my eyes.

"I had an amazing time. I made friends and played games. I'm sure you'll have a great time. Who wouldn't want to be your friend?" I look at him and smile. Ashton has been the only one there for me ever since I could remember. I wish he could get me out of going to school and we could go to the park and play with the dogs, but he can't. I gathered up all my courage to get up from my spot and get into the car. Hopefully Ashton is right and I will make some friends.

The school is so big. I was not expecting to see so many kids. I really start to wonder if this is such a good idea. Ashton squeezes my hand and nods, assuring me I am going to be okay. I give him a tight hug, never wanting to let go, and I tell Mrs. Torres 'bye' before walking inside, not that she was nice to me at all. I think she is only looking after us for the money from my parents.

As I enter the classroom, I see kids playing with blocks and dolls all over. As I put down my things, some girls approach me. "Who are you? Why do you look so weird? What is that in your hair?" They point and laugh at me.

Tears fill my eyes, until, "Patricia, what do you think you're doing? You are not the queen here. You can't bully everyone you meet." A girl. A girl with short dark hair, tied neatly in a low ponytail walks in my direction, yelling at the girl messing with me. "I think it's time you leave, Patricia." The girl, I assume to be Patricia, scoffs and walks away, rolling her eyes at me before she leaves.

"Hi, I'm Adalyn. What's your name?" Adalyn, who isn't much taller than me, holds out her hand to shake mine with a huge grin on her face. I stand there dumbstruck. I don't know what to do. Someone was willingly talking to me. "Um...Hello? Is anyone home?" she asks again, waving her hand in front of my face.

I snap too and greet her. "Oh hi, I-I I'm Brie. Nice to meet you." Of course I stutter.

"Nice to meet you Brie." She didn't care that I talked funny. She is still standing in front of me and not trying to run away. "By the way, I love your braids."

"Really? Thanks. My brother did them." She likes me.

"Wanna come play with the legos with me?"

Oh my god, she actually wants to play with me. Ashton was right.

"Sure, I'd love to."

We make our way to the playing area and I start to build my dream castle. Adalyn is building herself a house. We were having fun until it is interrupted by the evil spawn. "Hey what are you doing here? This isn't for you," he says to me, and grabs the block out of my hand. I get so upset. I am about to leave when I hear Adalyn start to yell at him.
