Dan's POV
There was a dull roaring in my ears, and the ground shifted beneath me. I opened my eyes, the glare of the sun bit into them. Wincing, I squinted and viewed my surroundings.

The dull roaring had not been in my head, it had been the relentless crashing of waves upon an ocean shore. The shifting ground had been pebbles sliding from beneath my feet. I glanced around, confused. I had a sense of déjà vu. This place felt strangely... Familiar.

Then it hit me. This was the pebbly beach me and Phil had visited a couple of years ago. I could clearly see- how we'd both gotten straight into the water even though it was freezing cold. The way he'd kissed me, his curly hair, the water clinging to his eyelashes and running down his nose...

I looked back into the ocean. Its cool blue colour reminded me of his eyes. Then I was looking into them. They stared into mine, looking peaceful and happy and just as I had always remembered. "Phil?" I asked tentatively. "What's-"

But he placed his finger over my lips, silencing me. Then he turned and began to walk, straight into the ocean.

"Phil?" I called after him, hesitant to join him as the wind had started to pick up. The water lapped hungrily at his jean clad calves.

"Phil, come back," I called to his retreating back. The wind was steadily getting stronger, and along with it a coldness began to grow. Phil did not show any signs of hearing me as the water reached his thighs.

I ran after him, ignoring the howling wind and the icy cold water, and frantically tried to grab ahold of him. But it was like trying to grab silk; it just kept slipping through my fingers.

"Ph-Phil!" I yelled, but the wind snatched my voice away. He finally turned around, waist deep in water, and just stared at me. His eyes were sad, almost accusing. He look at me sorrowfully for a few more moments before he continued walking.

"Phil, what are you doing!?" I shouted. He just kept walking.

Then, a huge wave came out of nowhere. Phil just looked at it as it built up, before turning sprung and facing me. His eyes had that haunted, sad look in them a s the wave crashed down right on him.

I bolted upright, chest heaving, shirt soaked with sweat. I felt bile rise in my throat as the dream came flooding back into my head. It had felt so real. I tried to shake off the feeling.

All of a sudden, my door was yanked open and Phil rushed in, looking worried.

"You okay? I heard you talking," He asked.

I shook my head. "I just had a bad dream. I'm fine."

He looked at me for a couple more seconds before climbing into my bed and cuddling up to me.

"Seriously, Phil, I'm fine."

"I know you are." He replied.

I sighed and nestled into his shoulder. "In the dream, we were at that beach you took me to a couple years back. Remember that one?"

I felt him nod, a smile on his face.

"And you drowned and I couldn't save you, or even hold you-"

"Shhhh," he hushed. "It's okay. I'm right here now."

I nodded, swallowing. But I couldn't shake off that uneasy feeling.

It had felt so real.
