Phil's POV
My breath hitched as Dan and I pushed through the hospital doors. All morning we'd both been nervous wrecks- Dan had put his shirt on backwards and on the tube he had told me that my fly was undone. It was not fun.
It had been like that all weekend. We were both anxious and apprehensive for Monday. Dan had been very quiet, just wanting to sit on the couch and stare out the window for the most part. I didn't blame him.
I prayed none of our subscribers saw us walk in. I couldn't imagine having to explain that to them.
The hospital was an imposing building near the centre of London. The interior was cool and modern looking. The overpowering smell of antiseptic invaded my nostrils. It made me feel ill. When I looked down at Dan, his face was pale and tight. I brushed my hand against his and he looked up at me.
It was no wonder he got bad memories from hospitals. When he was a teenager he had been hospitalised for cutting himself.
"Not the first time you've been in hospital 'cause of me, hey?" I said, chuckling a bit at my own joke.
Dan looked up at me, a mixture of amusement and horror on his face. "Phil!"
"What? It is," I said.
Dan's POV
Phil had to sign a few papers before he could do anything. Then he had to put on one of those blue smock-y things people wear in hospitals.
I made sure to hug Phil before he went into the the machine.
"I love you," I muttered in his ear.
"I love you too," He replied quietly. Then I returned back to the viewing area.
The nurse sat him down on the bed and told him that it would take a few hours and that he would hear a clanking noise but that that was just the machine working and that he needed to lie very still. Another doctor was watching the screens where the scans would show up.
A sheet of glass separated the machine from us. I sat back on one of the chairs and tried to relax. I felt like I was about to go on stage and do a performance, and insurmountable wave of panic washed over me. I swallowed and tried to keep my breathing normal. I focused on that. In, out, in out. Just relax.
I stayed for the whole scan, even though it took 3 hours. I couldn't imagine how hard it must've been for Phil to lie there, so still, for that long. I was all over the place; tapping my feet, fiddling with my hair, biting my nails.
Eventually it was finished. The monitoring doctor pressed something on his computer and a printer near him spat out some sheets of paper. Phil walked out of the machine room looking tired.
"Okay, will you two follow me?" The doctor said as he stood and collected the papers. Phil put his shirt back on and nodded at him.
We followed the man down a couple of halls until we reached what I presumed was his office. He invites us in to the small area and sits behind his desk. We take the two armchairs facing the desk.
"Okay so... Phillip, or do you prefer Phil?"
"Just Phil is fine," Phil replied.
"And you are Dan?" The doctor asked, clearly directed at me.
"Yeah."
"Are you two in a romantic relationship or just friends?"
I can see Phil cast a worried glance at me. I decide to be strong and not lie for once.
"He's my boyfriend."
"Great. I guess I should introduce myself. I'm Dr. Kennedy and I'm one of the head physicians here," he said, shuffling some papers around.
