Phil's POV
The red light blinked rhythmically, like a metronome. I counted the flashes... One...two...three...four...
"Hello Internet!" Dan's 'camera voice' came from beside me on the bed as he raised his hand in his signature wave-salute thing.
"Hey guys!" I said at the same time, a smile now plastered on my face as well.
"So...it's been a while," Dan chuckled, grinning sheepishly. "So, sorry about that, but we will explain during this video..."
It was clearly my turn to talk. "So, most of you know that we're in Manchester currently, because I'm getting treatment for the cancer. If you don't know all about that, you can go check out the video on my channel. It will explain for you."
Dan spoke up. He always knew. We were both well practised in being on camera with each other, so we could tell by each other's body language that it was our turn to talk. "So...something happened a couple of nights ago...." His throat caught. "And...fuck," He breathed. He glanced at me discretely. "I can't do this."
I took his hand. "You can. I'll help."
"So, a couple of nights..." He faltered. I took over.
"A couple of nights ago, I had a seizure. I was taken to the hospital and while I was out they took another MRI. Basically..." I took a deep breath. "The cancer is back, and it's terminal."
Dan seemed to have recovered although, his grip on my hand was tight. "We didn't want to have to tell you guys this way. Through a camera. Honestly, right now I just want to jump through the screen and give you all a big hug."
I nodded. "You guys mean a lot to us. Don't be upset about this, please. I'd never forgive myself if I hurt any one of you."
"Now for some good news!" Dan exclaimed suddenly.
"What's that, Dan?" I played along.
"We're alive. I did see that post, you know." He deadpanned. I chuckled, thinking back. He'd been on Tumblr last night, and he'd seen a post:
I believe Dan and Phil are dead.
It's been weeks since they've last been on social media. Their Twitters have been silent, and no one else has Tweeted them in ages. Maybe it's cause they're all at the funeral. Idk. You guys can make of it what you want. But there's no proof that they're not dead. Maybe they crashed on the way to Manchester. Who even knows these days. Even chris and pj's youtubes have slowed down, which could mean they're mourning. Maybe we should prepare a phandom funeral.
We'd had a laugh over that one, especially because of the ironic 60,000 people that had reblogged it. Including Dan.
"So, hopefully we didn't, like, completely ruin your day with the news...but it's better to tell the truth, y'know," Dan uttered sadly. "We really do appreciate you guys a lot."
"Remember to smile at someone today. Tell them you love them. You never know when you could lose them," I said, smiling weakly for the camera. Dan's already tight hand squeezed mine.
"Until next time," Dan said as he did his little wave again.
"Bye guys!" I followed.
Dan leaned forward and clicked the camera off. He sighed and lay back on the bed that we had been filming on. "Of all the things so far, that was one of the hardest."
I lay back with him. "They'll survive."
"But...we totally just ruined their Friday, didn't we?"
