Mara was vaguely aware of her surroundings.
Ren had taken her to a transport, ordered the pilot to take her directly to the medical center aboard his star destroyer, and disappeared.
At some point that order had been fulfilled, and she was roused by a stim injection in her wound.
She groaned, the serum searing painfully as it networked through her burned flesh, repairing layers at a time.
She didn't remember losing consciousness but she certainly didn't remember the trip to the med bay.
The bay was stark white, a deep contrast to the muted blacks and greys she'd seen of the first order so far.
A dark colored twi'lek medic asked her something, but she couldn't make it out the first time.
"Hungh?"
Mara managed, focusing on the face of the woman treating her.
"Do you need pain management?"
The twi'lek repeated patiently.
"No."
Mara responded all too suddenly.
She didn't want to be drugged, she didn't want to lose anymore time than she already had.
"Alright, we're going to stitch this up with simulant and get you into a bacta bath, let me know if you change your mind, the simulant will sting a bit."
Mara nodded, biting her tongue prematurely trying to prepare herself.
She attempted to meditate, removing her consciousness from her body, searching the force for her soulmate.
It was strangely easy to sense him now, their proximity was surely closer than she was used to, but still...
He was in turmoil, but that didn't seem to be anything new.
Vengeful, desperate, rage fueled him.
A familiar presence caught her attention, but a sudden sharp pain wrenched her from her concentrated state.
Skywalker.
Mara bit back a whimper of pain, pushing herself once again to the confrontation no doubt on the planet.
Confusion, anger, shock.
Ren.
Freedom, acceptance, peace.
Skywalker.
Determination, pride, hope.
Rey.
Mara was mildly aware of the sudden cool feeling in her body, and the slow ebbing of her physical pain.
They must've placed her in the bacta bath.
She lurched as Skywalkers presence left suddenly, not like when he'd closed himself off before, there was... finality to it. But peace.
Luke Skywalker was gone.
She waited for hours, maybe even a full cycle.
No one in the infirmary spoke to her, except to inform her of different steps of her treatment.
As far as she could tell they'd done everything necessary, but without orders from Ren they didn't know what to do with her.
Drug her? Put her in a cell block? Let her go?
They'd given her food in the form of ration sticks, IV fluid was being pumped through her system for hydration.
There are was nothing left to do but wait.
She was tucked into the corner of their infirmary as troopers and officers from the finalizer were still flooding in, needing anything from burn gel, to emergency surgery.
The in and out flux of force signatures was intense, she'd felt a few life forces slip away over time.
Her cot was stationed behind a privacy shield, but the medical personnel were too unsure to give her a room.
Mara felt him before she saw him, like an intense buzzing feeling in the force.
"Tell me everything."
Ta da! Part two is in the works, though a may make a few edits in this one before I publish any of it. Thanks for reading!
