Chapter 19: Miss Mystic Falls

Ava drives to school in her car and gets out of her car and smiles when she sees Elena. Elena smiles and says, "Nice car." Ava says, "Well, it was a waste to leave it sitting in the garage." Ava grabs Elena's face and softly kisses her and Elena says, "I didn't know you were coming back today." Ava says, "You know, I woke up this morning and I was feeling great, and I figured it was time for me to... get back into things." Elena says, "Does that mean you're okay now? With all the cravings?" Ava says, "Yeah, I mean, the worst part is over. So... now all I want to do is just... spend as much time with you as possible." Elena smiles and says, "I'm okay with that." Elena smiles and kisses Ava and then she pulls away and Ava says, "Hey, thank you. For helping me get through the rough patch." Elena nods and says, "You're welcome. We're going to be late." Ava says, "Okay. Umm, you know what? I'll catch up with you. I'm going to grab my stuff. I'll be right behind you." Elena says, "Okay." Elena walks away and Ava opens her trunk to get her bag eyeing the blood bags in her trunk that she stole from the hospital blood bank. Later, Ava walks into History class just as the bell rings and she sits next to Elena. Alaric says, "Okay. This week, we're going to set aside our regular curriculum for a lesson in local history as we approach Founder's Day. Apparently, the, uh, community leaders feel that's more important than World War II. But, hey, what do I know?" Then Bonnie walks in and says, "Sorry I'm late." Alaric says, "Well, it looks like we will be at full occupancy today. Welcome home, Bonnie. Right, Founder's Day. What does it mean to have a Founder's Day? Well, if you turn your attention to this exquisite diorama over here that I spend all night..." Ava tunes Alaric out and softly smiles at Bonnie, but Bonnie doesn't return the smile and she looks away. Ava slightly frowns confused. Later, Ava walks into her house and Damon says, "How was school?" Ava looks at Damon says, "Fine." Damon says, "Yeah? Same old, same old? Nothing new? No stories to bring home?" Ava says, "You're making small talk, why?" Damon says, "You seem awfully chipper lately. Less doom and gloom. Little more pep in your step." Ava says, "Let me guess, you think it's because I drank human blood again, right?" Damon says, "I mean, I don't want to brag but... I would definitely take responsibility for this new and improved you." Ava says, "Right, right, well, I hate to burst your bubble but I'm clean." Damon says, "Yeah, not possible." Ava says, "Not only is it possible, but it is quite true." Damon says, "Avangeline, let's be serious for a second. You've spent the last century and-a-half being a poster child for Prozac. And now you expect me to believe that this new you has nothing to do with human blood... nothing." Ava says, "I'm clean." As Ava walks away, Damon says, "You're lying." Ava says, "Believe that you want." Ava walks away from Damon with a smirk. Later, Elena calls Ava and she says, "I'm sorry for the short notice. I didn't even know the contest was coming up. Much less that I would be in it." Ava smiles through the phone and says, "I'll be happy to escort you anywhere." Elena says, "My mom was really into this Founder's Day stuff. She was even Miss Mystic in her day. I kind of wanted do it for her." Ava says, "Well, it'll be great. We'll have fun." Elena says, "Okay, I'll see you tomorrow. I love you." Ava softly smiles and says, "I love you, too." Elena hangs up and Ava leaves her room, goes to the basement, and looks in the fridge to see her blood. Then Damon walks in and says, "Well, well. She's a liar and a thief." Ava looks at Damon with a sigh knowing she's been caught. Damon says, "So, when were you going to share?" Ava says, "Go ahead. Help yourself." Damon says, "No, no, no, I'm talking about the fact that you're a closet blood junkie." Ava says, "So, I'm drinking blood again. You're the one that shoved it on me. What's your problem? I have it under control." Damon says, "Under control? You robbed a hospital." Ava says, "So, what's your point?" Damon says, "Fine. Whatever, sis. Drink up. Just remember, we're trying to keep a low profile. Why don't you walk up to Sheriff Forbes ask her to tap a vein?" Ava says, "Have my actions negatively impacted you? Oh, I can't imagine what that must feel like." Damon says, "Yeah, what does Elena think about the new... you?" Ava says, "Nothing's changed. I'm still the same person." Damon says, "Clearly." Ava says, "Elena doesn't need to know anything yet." Damon says, "You've been off the human stuff for years, Avangeline. If you're having trouble controlling--" Ava cuts Damon off and says, "I'm not having any trouble." Damon says, "Who do you think you're talking to? I know what it's like. That Jekyll and Hyde feeling. There's that switch. Sometimes it goes off and you snap. Right now, is not a good time for me to be worried about you snapping." Ava says, "I know that it pains you... to see this. But I'm fine. Okay? I'm fine. So please... do me favor... and back off." Ava grabs a blood bag, and she walks away.
