Chapter 17: Let the Right One In

Ava's in the living room with Elena and Damon who's just finished patching up the window and he says, "I say we go to Pearl's, bust down the door and annihilate the idiot that attacked us last night." Ava says, "Yeah. And then what? We turn to the rest of the house of vampires and say, "'Oops. Sorry?'" Elena says, "I can't believe you made a deal with her." Damon says, "It was more like a helpful exchange of information. Not like I had a choice. She's... scary. Besides, she's going to help me get Katherine back." Elena scoffs and says, "Of course, she is. Damon gets what he wants, as usual. No matter who he hurts in the process." Damon says, "You don't have to be snarky about it." Elena says, "I woke up this morning to learn that all the vampires have been released from the tomb. I've earned snarky." Damon says, "Uh, how long are you going to blame me for turning your birth mother into a vampire?" Elena says, "I'm not blaming you, Damon. I've accepted the fact that a self-serving psychopath with no redeeming qualities." Damon says, "Ouch." Ava says, "This isn't being very productive. We're going to figure out a way to deal with Pearl and the vampires, yeah?" Damon walks away and Elena says, "I'm sorry. He just makes me so cranky." Ava brings Elena into her arms and says, "I know. He makes everybody cranky." Elena says, "So, what are we going to do?" Ava says, "Damon and I are going to handle everything, I promise." Elena pulls away from the hug and says, "Well, what about me? I can't just sit here and do nothing." Ava says, "That's exactly what you're going to do because that's what's going to keep you safe." Elena says, "Which means nothing if you're not safe, too." Ava says, "What do you mean? I'm perfectly safe. I have Damon the self-serving psychopath on my side." Elena leans back into Ava's arms, and she says, "Hmm. Well, that's comforting." Ava kisses Elena's head. Later, after Ava says bye to Elena, Ava walks into the library finding Damon fixing the clock and he says, "Where are you going?" Ava says, "That vampire did a number on me last night when he stabbed me. I have to get my strength back up." Damon says, "I've got two liters of soccer mom in the fridge." Ava rolls her eyes and Damon says, "No?" Ava says, "We'll talk when I get back." Damon says, "Alright. Give my regards to the squirrels." Ava walks away. Ava's running out in the rain looking for food when she senses that she's not alone. Ava turns around to see two vampires and then as she goes to run, she gets stabbed in the stomach by the same guy who stabbed her last night, and she gets taken by the vampires. They take her to a house in the middle of the woods and she hears knocking on the door and Damon's angry voice says, "Pearl! Open this door. I swear to God I'll bust through and rip your head off." The door opens and it's the vampire who stabbed Ava and he says, "Pearl's not home. Hmm. Beautiful weather. Not a ray of sun in the sky." Damon says, "Where's my sister?" The vampire says, "Billy." Billy and another vampire bring out Ava and Damon sees that she's hurt, and he angrily says, "You're dead." The vampire says, "Whoa, I'm sorry. You haven't been invited in. Ms. Gibbons?" Ms. Gibbons appears and says, "Yes, Fredrick honey?" Fredrick looks at the woman and says, "Never let this bad man in." Ms. Gibbons looks at Damon and says, "I'll never let him." She walks away and Fredrick says, "One hundred and forty-five years left starving in a tomb thanks to Katherine's infatuation with you and your sister. First few weeks every single nerve in your body screams with fire. The kind of pain that can drive a person mad. Well, I thought your sister might've wanted to get a taste of that before I kill her. Billy." Then Billy stabs Ava and she grunts. Fredrick says, "You have a nice day." Fredrick closes the door on a very pissed off Damon. Fredrick then takes Ava down to the cellar and strips her of her top and jacket leaving just her bra on and ties her wrists and ankles with rope soaked in vervain. Ava grunts. Fredrick says, "Vervain on the ropes." Fredrick pulls on the ropes and Ava groans. Fredrick says, "That's got to sting. Speaking of..." Fredrick forces Ava's eye open and drops vervain in her eye and she groans. A vampire says, "This isn't right!" Fredrick says, "She killed Bethanne. One of us, Harper. And don't you think for a second, she wouldn't kill you if she had the chance. Pearl says we're not here for revenge, right? I say that's exactly what we're here for. Starting with this." Fredrick then slices at Ava's chest, and she winces and groans. Fredrick then grabs Ava by the neck and says, "And then her brother and anyone else that gets in our way." Harper grabs Fredrick's arm and says, "This isn't right!" Fredrick grabs Harper's neck and angrily yells, "You're going to want to let go of me!" Harper says, "Ms. Pearl will be home soon." Fredrick says, "Ms. Pearl... is no longer in charge. Tie him up. And stake him down." The other vampires take Harper away and Fredrick looks at Ava. Later, Ava grunts and looks up at Harper and weakly says, "Thank you... for trying to help me." Harper says, "They just needed somebody to blame. Someone to punish." Then the door opens, and Ava looks over to see Elena and she weakly says, "E-Elena? No, you shouldn't be here." Damon walks in after Elena and says, "She was supposed to stay in the car." As Damon's about to kill Harper, Ava says, "No, no. Not him." Damon says, "Whatever. Let's get you down." Ava says, "There's vervain on the ropes." Damon points to the rope and says, "Elena, pull that." Elena pulls the rope and Ava's on the ground. Damon takes off his jacket and hands it to Ava and says, "Alright, let's go." Ava pulls Damon's jacket on and closes it up and says, "Wait." Damon says, "What? Guys, come on. We have to get out of here." Elena takes the stake out of Harper's leg and Damon says, "Come on, we got to go." Ava says, "The other one." Elena takes the other stake out of Harper's other leg and Elena helps Ava walk and Damon says, "Can you get her in the car?" Elena says, "Yeah." Damon says, "Alright, go." Elena says, "What about you?" Damon says, "You rescue, I'll distract. Go." Elena helps Ava walk to the car. As they walk in the forest Elena says, "Can you walk?" Ava grunts and Elena feels Ava slip from her grasp, and she falls to the ground. Ava smells blood and she looks to see Elena's bleeding and Ava says, "You, okay?" Elena says, "Yeah. Come on, we have to keep going. Come on." Ava gets up with the help of Elena and they keep moving. Elena says, "Come on, it's right over here." They get to the car and Ava opens the door and sits in the passenger seat and Elena gets into the driver's seat and as Elena goes to start the car, she can't because the ignition has been cut and she says, "Ava." Then the passenger side window smashes open and Ava gets pulled out the car and she groans and Fredrick beats Ava up over and over again. Ava turns over and Fredrick kicks her and then grabs her by the neck and hoists her up and says, "This is for Bethanne." Fredrick stabs Ava and Fredrick continues to say, "And this is for the tomb!" An as Fredrick goes to kill Ava, Elena says, "No!" Elena stabs Fredrick and Ava drops to the ground and Elena goes over to Ava and says, "Ava?" Elena looks down to see Fredrick stabbed Ava but missed the heart and she takes the stake out and says, "Ava. No, Ava." Ava closes her eyes and Elena cries, "Ava, Ava. Ava! Ava!" Elena shakes Ava awake, and she says, "Ava, please. Ava! Oh, Ava, please get up. Get up, Ava." Elena turns to see Fredrick moving and she looks back at Ava and says, "Ava." Elena looks at her cut wrist and feeds it to Ava and Ava softly says, "Elena, please run." Elena says, "No." Ava says, "Please. Please, Ava, my wrist. Here. Take my wrist. You need more blood." Ava opens her eyes and says, "Go, Elena. Run. Run." Elena says, "No. I trust you." Elena nods and Ava turns and bites into Elena's wrist and drinks her blood and Elena groans from the pain. Elena leaves and then Fredrick walks up to Ava and as he's about to stab Ava. Ava stands up and growls and pushes Fredrick on the tree and holds him there and then she stabs him in the heart repeatedly. Elena runs over to Ava and says, "Ava, give me that..." Ava turns around and growls and then she lets go of Fredrick and her face goes back to normal. Ava drops the stick.

Later, Ava's back home and she showers and then gets out and sees Elena and Elena says, "How are you doing?" Ava softly says, "Uh, I'm okay. The wounds have mostly healed." Elena says, "Good." Ava softly says, "Elena." Elena turns around to face Ava and she says, "Yeah?" Ava says, "What you did today coming to help me. You could have been killed." Elena says, "I know." Ava says, "And what I did, I'm sorry that, uh... I'm sorry that you had to see it." Elena says, "I've just never... You were like this other person. And it's my fault. I-I made you..." Ava says, "What, no, no, no, no. You didn't make me do anything. You were saving my life. And I was saving yours." Ava hesitantly places her hand on Elena's cheek and rubs it with her thumb and Ava softly says, "Hey. Everything's going to be okay." Elena's phone rings and she pulls away from Ava's hand to answer it. Elena answers it and says, "Hey, Jer. What-what's going? Oh, no." Ava looks at Elena confused, and she says, "What's wrong?" Elena says, "They found Vicki's body." Ava sighs. Later, after Elena left Ava. Ava has the hunger for human blood, so she takes Damon's and drinks them until Damon walks into the room, worried about his sister. Damon may not care about anyone, but deep down he does care about his sister.
