Flashback to 1864, Avangeline and Damon watch as the town take a vampire away and Jonathan Gilbert says, "We have to get to the church, they're waiting." Avangeline says, "Circle around that way. I'll distract them. Go." Damon walks away. Avangeline moves from her hiding spot and says, "Over here! There's another one! Quick! Help me!" Avangeline draws them out and then she runs back to Damon who's got the keys to the cart and is about to unlock the doors and Avangeline says, "We don't have long." They open the door and Damon says, "Katherine. Katherine." They bring Katherine out of the cart and lay her on the ground and remove the trap from her face and untie her. Damon says, "We're going to get you out of here." Avangeline says, "Damon, hurry. Hurry." They hear a gun shot and it goes through Damon and Avangeline says, "No!" Avangeline goes over to Damon and says, "No." Damon groans and then he's not breathing, and Avangeline softly says, "Damon." Avangeline looks up to see the town's people are coming and she grabs a shotgun and fires it, but she also gets shot and she falls to the ground. Avangeline watches Katherine being taken away and she feels powerless. Back in the present, Ava's turned away from the door and she hears Elena say, "It's so hard to see her locked up like this." Damon says, "You're the one who locked her up." Elena says, "You helped." Damon says, "I couldn't have her running around chewing on people, while the town was looking for vampires now, could I?" Elena says, "It had nothing to do with you actually caring about her." Damon says, "Your thing, not mine." Ava hears their footsteps fade and she closes her eyes. Back in 1864, Avangeline wakes up and looks down to see her dress is bloody from being shot, but she feels no wound. Ava looks down at the small ring in her finger confused and she hears a voice say, "Katherine had me make that for you weeks ago." Avangeline says, "Where am I?" Emily says, "The quarry just North of town. My brother and I brought you here last night. We found you dead in the woods." Avangeline says, "Where's Damon?" Emily looks behind Avangeline and Avangeline turns around and sees Damon alive sitting by the water. Avangeline looks at Emily and says, "Am I, am I a--" Emily cuts Avangeline off and says, "Not yet. You're in transition." Avangeline says, "But how? I... I--" Emily cuts her off once again and she says, "You had Katherine's blood in your system when you died." Avangeline says, "No. I never..." Emily says, "She's been compelling you to drink it for weeks, Avangeline." Avangeline says, "And Damon?" Emily says, "No compulsion was necessary. He drank from her willingly." Avangeline sighs and she walks up to her brother and Damon says, "I woke up last night, I didn't know where I was. I went to the church. And I watched them drag her inside. Then they set fire to it. And the whole church went up into flames. They killed her, Avangeline. She's gone." Back in the present, Damon walks up to the door with blood in a bottle and he says, "Brought you something to eat. One hundred percent Avangeline diet approved. You know what will happen if you don't eat. You'll get all rotting and crusty." Ava says, "I'm not hungry." Damon sighs and says, "Of course you are. We're eternally hungry. Take it." Damon leaves the bottle near the bars, and he continues to say, "The human blood should be gone by now. Now, you want to explain why you're still in here feeling sorry for yourself? Come on. Drink up." Damon tosses the bottle inside the cell and Ava looks at it, but she doesn't drink it and looks back down. Damon says, "Fine. Starve. What do I care?" Damon walks away. Back in 1864, Avangeline took her dress off and is now in her undergarments and she sits next to Damon rinsing the blood of her dress and she says, "I bet Jonathan Gilbert has told father by now. I wonder how he took the news that we're dead." Damon says, "As if he cares. He betrayed us." Avangeline says, "He thought he was protecting us, Damon. He thought he was protecting this town." Damon says, "God. This sun hurts my eyes." Avangeline says, "It's part of it. The muscle aches, the sick feeling. Emily says it's our bodies pushing us to feed... to complete the transition." Damon says, "That's not going to happen." Avangeline says, "Is that your choice then? To die instead?" Damon says, "Isn't it yours? This was all to be with Katherine. But she's gone. I want it over." Back in the present, Elena checks up on Ava and she says, "How are you feeling? Damon says you need to drink that. You need it, Ava. Can't survive without it." Ava looks up at Elena and says, "I don't want to survive." Elena says, "What? No, don't say that." Ava says, "I'm sorry, Elena. No more. After what I've done it has to end. I just want it over." Back in 1864, Avangeline walks up to her home and she hears her father say, "May I offer you a drink, Mr. Gilbert?" Jonathan says, "Thank you, Mr. Salvatore. This won't take much longer." Avangeline walks towards her father's window and she hears Jonathan say, "I want to make sure the founder's archives are accurate." Her father says, "Be sure you document the loss of civilian life in the church." Jonathan says, "They were hardly civilians, Mr. Salvatore." Her father says, "As far as anyone needs to know, they were. As the records keeper for the council what you write will be passed down through generations. Certain details should be kept only between you and me." Jonathan says, "For example?" Her father says, "My children. They will be remembered as the innocent victims of the Battle of Willow Creek. Not for their shame." Jonathan says, "Certainly, Mr. Salvatore." Back in the present, Ava says, "You know, Damon hasn't fed me vervain in a while. I could be at those bars in a flash, and you'd be dead." Elena says, "Yeah, you could. But you won't." Ava says, "Please just go away. I don't want you here." The door opens and in walks in Elena. Ava says, "What are you doing? Get out of here." Elena stubbornly says, "No." Ava says, "You're taking a stupid risk, I can hurt you." Elena says, "Then I'm stupid. You need to drink this." Elena holds the bottle out to Ava and Ava says, "Elena, get out of here, or you'll regret it." Elena says, "Drink." Ava stands up and tosses the bottle away and her face changes and she angrily says, "I said get out!" Elena says, "No." Ava's face changes back to normal and Ava goes to sit back down, and she brings her knees to her chest. Elena sits next to Ava and she sighs and says, "Talk to me, Ava. Why are you doing this?" Ava says, "I'm making the decision I should have made years ago." Elena says, "What are you talking about?" Ava says, "You have to feed in order to complete the transition." Elena nods and says, "I know that." Ava says, "It was a choice I shouldn't have made." Back in 1864, Avangeline walks into her father's office and he's startled to see her, and he says, "Dear God." Avangeline says, "Even in our death, you only feel shame?" Her father says, "You're one of them now." Avangeline says, "No. Father, I came to say goodbye." Her father says, "I watched you die." Avangeline says, "You were there when we were shot?" Her father says, "I pulled the trigger myself." Avangeline says, "You killed your own children?" Her father says, "You were both dead to me the moment you sided with the vampires. I only thank God that your mother isn't alive to see the disgrace you've become." Avangeline says, "I haven't turned yet. I don't want to. I'm going to let myself die, father, please." Her father breaks off a piece of wood and says, "Yes, you are." As he goes to stab Avangeline, she moves out the way and tosses her father away and he slams against the wall with the stick in his chest and Avangeline rushes over to her father and says, "Oh, God, father, I didn't mean to." Her father says, "Get-get away from me." Avangeline says, "No. Let me help you. Please." Avangeline takes the stake out of her father and Avangeline looks down at the blood on her hands and she gives it a taste and it taste's amazing. Avangeline tastes more of the blood and she groans and says, "Oh, God. What's happening to me?" Avangeline feels her fangs come out and she knows that she finished the transformation of becoming a vampire. Back in the present, Ava looks at Elena and she says, "How can you even look at me right now?" Elena says, "You need to be able to talk about these things, Ava. I need to hear them. Come upstairs. We can talk about it more, an-and we'll keep talking as long as you need." Ava says, "You're so sure I'm ready?" Elena nods and she takes out Ava's ring and she says, "And when you feel the same way... I'll be upstairs." Elena places the ring next to her and she gets up and walks away. Back in 1864, Avangeline brings over a young girl over to Damon and Damon says, "What are you doing? Who is that?" Avangeline says, "I brought her for you. She's a gift. Have a seat, please." The girl sits down, and Damon looks at his sister and says, "What have you done, Avangeline?" Avangeline says, "Damon, I went see father. He came at me. I didn't know my own strength. There was blood everywhere. He was dying, and the blood was too strong. I needed it. I had to have it." Damon says, "You fed?" Avangeline smiles and says, "Yes. And it's incredible. My body is exploding with power, Damon." Damon says, "No." Avangeline says, "I can hear things from far away. I can see through the darkness. I can move, like it's magic. And the guilt, the pain, Damon, I can turn it off like a switch... Katherine was right. It's a whole another world out there, Damon." Damon says, "Katherine is dead, Avangeline. There's no world without her." Avangeline says, "No. You can turn that off too. You don't have to feel that pain anymore." Damon says, "I don't want it." Avangeline says, "You're weak. You'll be dead soon. You need this. You'll die." Avangeline grabs ahold of Damon and Damon says, "No, I can't." Avangeline looks at the girl and grabs her and Avangeline feels her face change and she looks at the girl and she bites into the girls neck and she drinks her blood. Avangeline lets go and looks at her brother and she says, "I won't let you die." Damon says, "No, I can't." Avangeline says, "Don't fight it. We can do this together." Avangeline brings Damon and the girl closer, and Damon feeds off the girl. Back in the present, Ava escapes the cell, and she leaves her house and grabs her black zip-up jacket and her black converse, and she goes to the quarry where she first woke up as vampire. Ava looks to see the run down shed. Flashback to 1864, Avangeline looks at Damon and she says, "How do you feel?" Damon says, "You were right. It is a whole new world." Avangeline says, "We can explore it together." Damon sighs and says, "You got what you wanted. You and me for all eternity. But here this, sister. I will make it an eternity... of misery for you." Avangeline's confused and Damon walks away. Later, she finds Emily and she says, "You've transitioned." Avangeline says, "You'd have rather found me dead?" Emily says, "Katherine saved my life once, I owed her. But that doesn't mean I'd wish her curse on anyone." Avangeline says, "It feels more like a gift." Emily says, "That will change." Avangeline says, "Why is that?" Emily walks up to Avangeline, and she says, "Because even in death your heart is pure, Avangeline. I sense that about you. That will be your curse." As Emily walks away, Avangeline says, "Emily, wait." Back in the present, Ava's feeling so much pain and she feels like she's about to pass out until she hears a voice say, "Ava." Ava looks to see Elena and she says, "Damon told me the rest of the story. I thought I might find you here." Ava says, "I should have died that night... just like I had chosen. I should have let Damon die too." Elena says, "But you didn't. And if you die now, it's not going to change what happened." Ava says, "Every single person that's been hurt, every single life that's been lost it's because of me." Elena says, "The night that my parents died... I blew off family night so that I can go to some party. I ended up getting stranded and they had to come pick me up. That's why we ended up in the car at Wickery bridge and that's why they died. Our actions are what set things in motion. But we have to live with that." Ava has tears in her eyes, and she says, "I made a choice, Elena. And because of that choice, a lot of people were hurt." Elena says, "You also made a choice to stop to reject the person that the blood made you. You made a choice to be good, Ava." Ava says, "No. Please don't do that." Elena says, "That's the person who jumped in the water to save the family whose car had driven off the bridge." Ava says, "Please, don't make this all okay." Elena says, "That's the person, who saved my life." Ava says, "You don't understand, Elena." Elena says, "Then tell me." Ava says, "It hurts me knowing what I've done, and that pain is with me all the time and every day, I think that if I just give myself over to the blood, I can make that pain stop. It would be that easy, and every day, I fight that. And I am so terrified that one day I'm not going to want to fight that anymore, Elena. And the next time I hurt somebody... it could be you." Elena says, "There will be no next time." Ava says, "You don't know that." Elena says, "Maybe I don't. But what I do know is that you could take this throw in the quarry, and let the sun rise. Or you could take this ring and put it on and keep fighting." Elena puts the ring in Ava's hand, and she closes her hand up. Elena grabs Ava's face with one hand she softly kisses her and then she pulls away and says, "It's your choice." Elena walks away and Ava says, "Elena." Elena looks at Ava with hope in her eyes and she watches Ava place the ring on her finger and she walks up to Elena and grabs her face and pulls her in for a kiss and Elena wraps her arms around Ava's neck and deepens the kiss. Elena then pulls away and hugs Ava. Later, Ava walks into the library with Elena and Damon looks up at them and says, "Little girl lost." Elena looks at Ava and says, "I'll be upstairs, okay?" Ava nods and softly says, "Okay." Elena looks at Damon and says, "Goodnight, Damon." Elena lets go of Ava's hand and walks away. Ava says, "Thank you." Damon says, "No, Avangeline, thank you. You're back on Bambi blood, and I'm the big badass brother again, all is right in the world." Ava sits down on the couch, and she says, "No, I mean it. Thank you. For... helping her, take care of me." Damon says, "You brood too much. Everything on this planet is not your fault. My actions, what I do, it's not your fault. I owe them. They belong to me. You are not allowed to feel my guilt." Ava softly says, "Do you feel guilt?" Damon says, "If I wanted to... it's there." Ava nods and as she gets up from the couch, Damon says, "You know, Emily waited till after I turned to tell me she'd been successful in protecting Katherine with her spell. She didn't want me to know about the tomb. She thought it would impact my decision." Ava says, "She didn't want either of us to turn. She said it was a curse." Damon says, "Witches... judgy little things." Ava says, "Why didn't you tell me?" Damon says, "'Cause I didn't want you to know. 'Cause I hated you, and I still do." Ava softly says, "I know." Damon says, "But not because you forced me to turn." Ava says, "Then why?" Damon stands up and says, "Because she turned you. It was just supposed to be me, Avangeline... just me." Damon walks out of the room.
