Basic backstory, Shelby and Scott's souls are connected because when Scott jumped dimensions, he had to connect his soul to somebody, otherwise the universe would force him back to his own world, or somebody from his dimension, likely another dimension hopper, would pull him back through. He chose Shelby because he figured she's the one that he could trust the most (this version of them didn't know each other at that point)
