How long had Lyon and Ladon known each other anyway? They obviously seemed to go way back. Was there something I missed? I needed answers.
All of a sudden Lyon started talking: "Ladon." He called. "When we find a place to land for the night, I want to talk with you about our past. Don't think after you rescued me, that I would just forget what you did to us. What you did to the family." Lyon looked a little upset, a tear was falling from his feathery face. He didn't like that topic, of course.
"Lyon, you don't understand. There was a reason I did what I did." Ladon replied.
"I will understand when we talk about it later." Then all fell silent.
* * * *
After a while of silence, I finally found a place to rest for the evening.
"Hey guys, look. It's an island." I shouted.
"Well, looks like you sure did young-one," Lyon responded.
"Hmm, it looks promising," Ladon said. "Let's go."
We began to fly down, looking for the best spot on the island where good rest might be found. When we finally found a good spot we flew in a straight line down to that area.
"Let's get some shut-eye. We have lots of traveling to do tomorrow." Lyon said.
"Not until I know about you and Ladon's past. I overheard you talking and now I am curious. Can you tell me, please?" I asked.
"It's more of Ladon's story than mine. I think he should tell you." Lyon replied.
"I will tell my, or our story, but questions must be asked AFTER the story, not during. Understand?"
"Ok, ok, I won't ask during your tale." I rolled my eyes and replied.
"Alright then. It started years ago when I was just your age. I had friends I loved to hang out with and a family who loved me. I had a wonderful home and good-tasting food. The water was magical and everything was beautiful. My life was perfect, but I wanted what I could not have--freedom. All I wanted was to leave the kingdom, and see for myself what the world was like. But the king wouldn't allow any dragon to leave and if anyone did, they would be severely punished. I, being the stubborn dragon I am, refused to listen. I left the kingdom and explored for myself how awful the world had become. When I returned back to the kingdom, my so-called "friends" informed the king of my absence. The king, furious beyond all belief, called me to the castle and said I was never to return to the kingdom and that if I did, death may be in the future. I was saddened that my mother did nothing to stop my father from kicking me out of the only place I had ever known." Ladon paused. He seemed to shift into a sad dragon. "I flew for hours that night, looking for anywhere to land. It was hard seeing where I was to go, for I had tears flooding my eyes. When I finally found somewhere that looked quite suitable for my needs, I landed, hoping it wouldn't be dangerous like the rest of the world had become. I searched for a good place to rest and probably make myself a new home. While I searched, I came across a kingdom or an empire. I entered through the gates and saw many griffins flying around the place. I continued to explore and met a young griffin, and his name was.." Ladon looked over at Lyon and smiled. "His name was Lyon. He was scared to meet me at first.
"Your-your a dragon? A real dragon? Where did you come from?" He asked me.
"I think I am real," I replied. "I came from a beautiful land called the Dragon Kingdom, it's full of tens of thousands of dragons, just like me."
"Wow. That is so cool. I am a Griffin. Welcome to the Griffin Empire." Lyon said to me. He was very welcoming.
"Thank you very much!"
