"Wakey wakey, petal." That sounds like something out of a horror movie.

"James?"

"Aha, so you enjoyed the simulation then?"

"Oh, it's you! I was so caught up in it all. How did it feel so real?"

"The magic of demon technology and nothing more. So how do you feel about your P1 now?"

"I was there just like any other girl. I don't even remember being anything else back then. My past just feels like that. The red dress, the cute trainers, the ginger hair – it all feels like that's who I really was."

"That's because it now is. That's what you will remember of your first year of primary school forever more. We have corrected but a small part of your flawed timeline. We have a lot more to do...if you are up for it of course. I can send you back to your world at any time."

"I think I want to keep righting some wrongs if it's all the same to you. I can feel myself healing in here. Do we go on to Primary 2 now?"

"That's...not quite how it works. See, it's all about righting specific errors. The primary school woes that you felt every year held their genesis in Primary 1. By fixing that, we can trick the mind into thinking that every year at primary school was spent as a normal girl."

"OK. So what's next?"

"I think you might know. But the clue is...you are still in P1."

"It's definitely the nativity play, right?"

"Correct. You played a wise man?"

"Ugh. Yeah, I did. It was gross. This old grey beard and weird cane I had to carry. I brought the gold."

"What did you want to be?"

"I never really knew. I just wanted to be something more feminine."

"That's all I really need to hear. Stand back from every dial and switch, please, Skye. I think it's time that your nativity play was more akin to your dreams."

The rose tint takes up the entire cubicle and I pass out again, fingers crossed to have as great an experience as my last one.
