Life at Malfoy Manor
Though Tom was still wary of the Malfoys, he could not deny their hospitality. If they were truly going to betray him, they were good at hiding it. He had only been there a few weeks and slowly but surely, he found himself getting comfortable. The small family took him out for parties and dinners, balls of all sorts, introducing him to the high class of the wizarding society.
Each time he had put on a charming act that he had finally gotten the hang of thanks to Abraxas, and they adored him. His sly smile and gleaming eyes and after staying just a few weeks under the care of Rufina, Tom Riddle did not look frail.
He had grown just an inch or two and he could no longer see his ribs. Rufina had given him a magical examination of sorts and found every detail of what the boys at the orphanage had done to him and at first Tom had been furious and embarrassed. However soon, he saw that she was only..helping him. She gave him potions to take everyday and he began exercising with Abraxas, taking runs and walks around the entirety of the Malfoy estate as well as flying brooms and sparring in their dueling room.
Tom had gained a healthy amount of weight and because he was no longer confined to a room with four other boys, he had gotten the best sleep he had ever had. The dark circles around his eyes were faded and now the boy seemed fairly less tense around Abraxas and his mother. He was still wary of them all, not completely letting his guard down, but he did like their company at times. He and Abraxas..grew kind of close. They did not laugh together, it was mainly Abraxas laughing and teasing Tom while the latter threw him jinxes and hexes.
Tom Riddle learned extremely quickly. He had studied the course books religiously, soon taking books from the Malfoys library and reading up on all sorts of magic as well as Hogwarts, the school his ancestor had helped build. Because of this he began practicing with the Malfoys in their dueling room. Enceladus was not a forgiving teacher. He was strict on Tom and his son, but Tom did not mind. Abraxas would get annoyed but he knew not to disobey his father, who was a very formidable wizard. Rufina was more gentle in her approach and she explained things in depth, never getting angry if they got something wrong, which rarely happened anyway.
Tom learned about his wand and how his core was affected by which magicks he used. If he used too much light magic he could damage his core, as his core was dark or black. Grey and dark spells were the easiest for him to do and Enceladus taught him how to use minor dark spells so not to make the professors of Hogwarts wary. He was told to always practice his magic everyday at home and school even though according to Rufina, they were trying to pass a law that stated young wizards could not use magic outside of school.
However being pureblood traditionalist, this did not matter. They refused to restrict a young wizard's magic. Enceladus mentioned that this law was mostly aimed at muggleborn students who had one or more muggle parents. The pureblood families had protested harshly against this as magic was never restricted before but Rufina had a feeling the law would pass eventually because of Dumbledore. He was always sticking his beard in places it didn't belong.
It was Abraxas who suggested Tom meditate to calm his wild magic. He explained that if he lost himself in dark magic, he would go insane, like his ancestors had. So, though Tom felt it would not help, he began meditating two hours before the sun rose on the balcony. To his surprise, it did help. Not only did it calm his magic, but it calmed his mind as well. He could feel his connection with magic and he had even begun to see the Malfoys magic.
And when they were not studying and practicing, Abraxas would drag Tom outside and all around wizarding England getting him robes and trinkets, books and food and making sure Tom would know his way around without Abraxas some day. Though the young Malfoy had no intention of ever leaving the boy's side. "Are you having trouble Tom?" commented Abraxas, his grey eyes sliding over to the darker haired boy as he began writing down notes about the wizarding families.
