Chapter 43

I walk around the beach in search of the climber girl I met before, now curious as to the reasoning behind why Chishiya was so intrigued in them. From what I've seen from Arisu I didn't think he'd have piqued Chishiya's interest but here we are. The girl on the other hand I can understand. I didn't see her much in the game but she seems to have her head screwed on and her physical ability is nothing to scoff at. "Hey y/n what's happening" Kuina's voice rings out as she waves at me from down the corridor.

"Not much just looking for that new girl" I say as Kuina goes silent for a moment. It was short but to me her silence was extraordinarily noticeable. "Why's that? I've been making sure they settle in" Kuina says as I put on my sweet smile. I think this may be the very first time I've had to actively hide my intent from Kuina. It doesn't feel good doing this to a friend but if I'm being left in the dark I'll make sure to gather as much information as I can on my own.

"Militants have been asking about them and I've been able to get by but if Aguni asks I dread to think what'll happen then" I say as Kuina lightens up a little. "Oh right that's fine then, got to do what you got to do" she says as I nod still smiling sweetly to her. "Exactly, I am having trouble finding the new girl though" I say as Kuina looks around a little. "I think she's looking around and getting her bearings, I hope she doesn't find the back though" Kuina says as I listen intently. "They'd kill her for finding the bodies right" Kuina asks me as I nod carefully.

"Good point, I'll go sit out back and keep her away if she does get over there" I say as Kuina nods. "Want me to come along" Kuina asks as I shake my head. "With what's going to happen it's probably best staying away for a little" I say in an attempt to gauge her response. "Oh Chishiya's said hasn't he" she says as I nod and grit my teeth a little at the slight annoyance. "I'll see you around then" she says and waves me off as I walk down the corridors until I reach the back.

I hate being left in the dark of his plan but that shouldn't bother me. I've got much more important things to think about. I get out the back and stand on top of the stairs as I look out at the water behind the beach. I let out a sigh while rubbing the back of my neck as I can feel the tension growing. I know I should be blocking out the thoughts of Chishiya but he keeps cropping up in my mind. I've never had a problem with this before and that's saying something since I would block out everything useless in my job back in Tokyo.

"Fuck" I groan out in annoyance as I swing a hand out to the wall beside me from the growing frustration. "Hey sexy woman" I hear Niragi's voice sounds out from behind as I look up to the door to see him leaning against the frame. "Wow you look rough what did Hatter say" Niragi says as his joking exterior fades in an instant. "Told me to help the new boy out" I say briefly as Niragi comes over to my side and sits down. "Feel like you're being replaced" he asks as I shake my head to tell him no.

"You know I don't care about what Hatter thinks just ugh" I say as he leans back and looks up at the sky. "That kind of night" he says in a soft tone that I haven't heard from him before. He doesn't ask if I want to talk but his silence says it all. There's no snarky comments or flirtatious jokes it's just silence and right now I couldn't ask for anything more. "You know a while back Hatter offered me a different position" I say as Niragi keeps looking at the sky not bringing too much attention to me as I speak.

"He said I could be one of his girls at his side and tend to his needs" I say emphasising the word his. Niragi looks over me still not saying anything as he just takes in the features on my face. "That wouldn't suit you y/n" he says as I let out a broken little laugh. "You're telling me" I say as he reaches a hand over my shoulder and pulls me to his side. I feel a small gentle kiss on the top of my head. "It'll be alright after all what's he going do when I'm first in line to romance you" Niragi cracks a small joke as I chuckle a little at his attempt to lighten the mood.
