Pain was all Leo could feel for a very long time. He could hear, but nothing he heard was pleasant to the ears. There were screams around him, terrified cries of pain and anguish that kept him thinking and thinking and thinking. His brothers... Where were they? Were they okay, did they make it out, or were they stuck like he was?
Leo opened his eyes. Dust swirled around him and broken debris of concrete lay across and around him. One of his legs was broken, the other twinging with pain. Something was caught in his throat, and Leo coughed loudly, hacking up blood. It splattered over his plastron and the sight of it made Leo nauseous. He looked away.
"Leo!" someone shouted.
Leo couldn't make out who it was, or what was happening. He could hear the sound of metal scraping on metal, another shout of pain, and the roar of something huge. Footsteps ran in all sorts of directions around him, but he couldn't see anyone.
Leo coughed again and his eyes rolled in his skull, a headache forming behind his temples. The sound of his name being shouted was barely registered as Leo groaned. A block of concrete blocked his sight, and his legs were caught under one. The broken one didn't hurt, he didn't feel anything in that leg. The other one throbbed with pain and with every movement Leo made, it became worse.
"Leo, answer me!"
It was the same voice as before, but Leo didn't know who it was that was calling him. He felt tired, every muscle in his body shaking and bruised. His plan hadn't worked, he'd failed his brothers, gotten them hurt. He'd gotten himself almost killed. He was injured, seriously so, and someone was calling his name annoyingly loud.
The concrete around him was suddenly shoved away to reveal his older brother, Raph's face one of great concern. The snapper growled when he saw Leo and bulldozed his way through the debris, finally reaching the injured turtle.
"You idiot, you can't just jump in front of an attack like that. You could have died!" Raph exclaimed, pulling the concrete from Leo's leg.
Leo cried out in pain and bit his lip hard. He tasted blood, and spit on the ground beside him. Raph looked at him with an apologetic look, before simply picking him off the ground. Leo cried out again, head slumping as the pain overwhelmed him. Raph apologized but didn't slow his movements.
"You're gonna be okay," Raph said. "I have a plan."
Leo smirked, bloodied teeth revealing themselves to Raph. The larger turtle grimaced and turned to walk away from the wreckage he'd pulled his brother from.
"Of course you have a plan, fearless leader," Leo said, head spinning.
Raph opened his mouth to say something, snaggle-tooth hanging lopsided. But he closed his mouth again with a grim look on his face. He shouted something Leo couldn't quite hear, and Donnie appeared next to them, a worried look on his face.
He scanned Leo with his tech bracelet, before saying something to Raph. Leo couldn't hear him, the sound around him muffled. It was like his ears had ruptured or something. He frowned, his head still spinning. His thoughts didn't make any sense, and he only noticed Mikey was there as well when his small hand landed on Leo's shoulder, demanding his attention.
Leo sloppily turned his head, smiling at his brother. Something dripped from his mouth, and Mikey's face went still in shock, eyes going wide. He shouted something at Donnie before pulling his chucks from his belt and flinging himself to the side.
A huge tentacle slammed down where he'd just stood and Leo felt the impact through his broken bone. He cried out, Raph immediately taking evasive actions. Donnie disappeared from view, and Leo knew that whatever they were fighting was huge.
