Right before the mission, Raphael had taken Mikey to see something. They'd left the others behind in the lair, and the two box turtles ran over rooftops and jumped down alleys. Mikey hadn't questioned Raphael's intentions and simply went with him, his excitement seeming to infect Raphael. The both of them had smiles on their faces, and Mikey knew that even being in Raphael's vicinity helped the other express himself.
Doctor Feelings didn't seem quite necessary after all.
"Where are we going?" Mikey asked as they jumped down another alley.
This part of New York seemed even darker and less inviting than what Mikey was used to. He was slightly scared, but he wouldn't let Raphael know that. He trusted his brother's counterpart, so he wouldn't question what the other had in mind.
"We're going to Mutant Town," Raphael said, peeking around a corner and motioning for Mikey to follow him.
"Mutant Town?" Mikey questioned.
Raphael nodded his head and Mikey quickly followed as he jumped a fence. The two of them moved through the shadows until they came upon a large, lit-up town square. Raphael stopped Mikey before they could come out of the shadows and instructed him to simply watch for a few moments. Mikey did as asked, and his eyes widened.
Before him lay nightlife. Nightlife filled with mutants. Wherever he looked, there was some sort of mutated human or even animal, taking part in the late-night market and festival which was clearly being held.
"What is this place?" Mikey asked, even though he already knew its name.
"Mutant Town is the place where all mutants in New York live. We are one of the few who live outside of the fenced-off area," Raphael explained. "I'll introduce you to some of our friends."
Raphael took a step out of the shadows and Mikey hesitantly followed. He had never seen so many mutants before. Sure, they, too, had a lot of mutants, but not this many. Mikey was intrigued and scared at the same time, and he closely followed behind the other box turtle as Raphael led them through the crowd.
"Raph!" someone shouted.
Mikey yelped as a white fox jumped out from nowhere, a huge smile on her furred face. She was wearing a blue mask over her snout and her body was mostly covered by a cloak. She seemed friendly enough, however, and Raph smiled at her.
"Hey, Alopex. How's Mona?" the box turtle asked, pulling the fox into a hug.
Alopex laughed and hugged him back, smiling still. "She's great. Karai came to visit the Dojo and told us what happened. Do you need any more help?"
Raphael shook his head. "Nah, I don't think so. We got it covered," he said, confidence dripping from his words.
Mikey didn't say anything. He simply watched Raphael interact with the fox, and the box turtle motioned for Mikey to come closer. Alopex's eyes flitted to him and she sucked in a sharp breath.
"This is the new one Karai talked about?" she asked curiously, coming closer to Mikey.
"Hi," Mikey said, smiling slightly. "I'm Mikey."
Alopex smiled happily, "I'm Alopex."
She grabbed Mikey's hand and shook it, her white fur soft against his leathery hand. Raphael let them be for a moment, before saying they needed to meet someone else, and Alopex offered to bring them. They accepted and Alopex told Mikey all about Mutant Town as they made their way through to find who he was supposed to meet.
It wasn't five minutes later when someone flew at them with such speed Mikey thought they were being attacked. The person, salamander?, flew into Raphael and they both fell to the floor, laughing loudly.
