This is another fic based off a song but it won't have the song actually in it? Like the lyrics are there then a scene related to them, if that makes sense. Eh, you'll figure it out. The song is my tears ricochet by Taylor Swift. This is Jegulus. It has angst and sadness and a lot of dark themes. It has the whole Sirius and Walburga situation so keep that in mind, I don't know how to warn for that. Happy reading!!

We gather here, we line up. Weeping in a sunlit room. If I'm on fire, you'll be made of ashes too.

Regulus reads the letter over again, refusing to believe it.

For the purpose of our family name, Sirius Orion Black has been cast out of the family. This leaves you as our heir.

I trust you,

Mother

He can't believe it. It can't be true. He throws the letter beside him and starts crying. And to make matters worse, James Potter and his girlfriend Lily Evans come stumbling into the room he's in, laughing and holding hands. Regulus clenches his jaw and tries to ignore them as they whisper 'I love you' to each other. They start kissing and that's where Regulus draws the line. He clears his throat loudly and they look at him.

"Oh, I didn't realize anyone was here," Lily says politely, not recognizing him. Regulus pays her no attention. He's watching James. James, who looks at him the way Sirius used to. James, who knows who he is. James, who's eyes glance around Regulus and see the paper beside him. "Come on, James. Let's leave this person be."

"I'll be out there in a minute. I... need to do something," James says, not breaking eye contact. Lily nods and leaves the room.

"I don't want to hear it, Potter. Go snog your girlfriend. I'll leave you two be."

"Reg..."

"Don't call me that," Regulus snaps. He bites the inside of his cheek and takes a deep breath. "I'll go."

"Don't. I assume that was Walburga? Telling you about Sirius?" James gestures weakly at the letter.

"I suppose my brother told you all about that," he spits.

"I- yeah. Look, Regulus, I know you don't like me, but leave. Leave like Sirius. You can live with me. My parents won't mind. I promise."

"I can't," Regulus says gripping his hair.

"Why?"

"Because I just can't! If I leave, she'll kill us both! She just needs one heir."

"We can protect you! My dad, he works at the ministry. We can sort something out, Reg, please." Regulus didn't even correct him this time, just meekly shook his head.

"I can't risk you like that."

"Please, Reg. It would work."

"No, it wouldn't. Go back to Evans. She probably wants you."

"Reg...-"

"Forget it, James. Just- leave it."

"Think about it?"

"Yeah, sure, whatever." James leaves, looking solemn. Regulus casts a locking charm on the door and a flame-proof spell on the room before setting fire to a desk and watching it burn to nothing. Before putting the last of the fire out, he burns the letter as well. "Aguamenti," he mutters to the pathetic flame. It goes out under the water and he leaves the room.

Even on my worst day, did I deserve, babe, all the hell you gave me?

James leaves the room feeling rotten, and the lock clicks behind him.
