- BOSS!!!!!!!  –   Kath hollered from the other side of the office.

Lan Xichen grinned. Thankfully, the door of his own office was open.

- WHAT NOW, KITTY????? –  he hollered back.

- 8 O'CLOCK OR 9 O'CLOCK?

Du Shuangyu shuddered at this awful display of bad manners.

Lan Xichen thought for a split second.

- 9 O'CLOCK, BABYGIRL!!!!

- Cut it!!!  –  he hissed, but no one heard him.

- ALRIGHT!!!!!!!!!

Gao Xi was frowning, sitting at his desk, and not too happy that Katherine had moved to the side to make the phone call.

- Why is he calling her pet names all the time? Dammit!   -  he mumbled now, mostly talking to himself.

- To spite you.  -  Du Shuangyu said extremely calmly.

After his successful managing of the Jenny Yao case, and the fact that it had been his work  that had given Lan Xichen his major trump card to get the handsome settlement for Wei Wuxian, he felt quite proud of himself, too sure that, in the end, their boss was going to choose him  for the Zorn case, to be his second in Court. His smug half-smile that never left his thin pale lips lately drove Gao Xi incredibly crazy, and so he was incredibly irritable, well, more than the usual amount.

- Asshole.  –  he said to him, extremely calmly too.

Now both of them observed Kath's perfect ass move from one end of the open office to the other, as she truly cat-walked the path to Lan Xichen's office, ignoring them completely, too aware that he one watched her with lust, and the other  –  with envy.

She didn't care. It was busy time. Their boss needed her, and she liked to be needed. Right now, Lan Xichen was her №1 priority.

When she entered, Lan Huan was actually on the phone with what she thought would be a striptease bar manager.

- How extravagant can you make a birthday party? Hmmm...  -  he was not impressed, obviously.  –  Do you have private boxes? No, we are not planning on an orgy!!! Hmmm...  -  he huffed, frowning now, regretting the impossibility of that super idea.  –  Hey, it's my brother you're talking about!!! Ugh... No. No, thanks. You just lost 80K grand. Damn!

He banged the phone shut, screen down, on his desk.

She smirked. It seemed she had had an easier time finding a bodyguard for him than he was having finding an appropriate venue for his Di's birthday.

- We live in a city of sin, I am telling you, my child!  –  he pressed his long fingers to his temples, and rolled his eyes dramatically.

- Oh, I believe you, totally, preacher man!  –  she mocked him, placing a hand on her hip and tilting her head to the side, amused.

- Why are you dressed like a whore again today?  –  he grinned at her. And then immediately:  

–  How's stuff going with Xi?

- It's... going.  –  she blushed now. Talking about orgies was easier than talking about her lover, somehow.

- Aaaa-ha.  –  he wasn't impressed, but raised an eyebrow, giving her a couple of seconds to share with him. 

She didn't.

- So... hit me!  –  he finally mumbled.

She looked more alive now, and gave him a brief report:

- 9 o'clock tonight, at the Death&Co.  He will probably be early, to check on surroundings, and your... huh... loverboy.

Lan Xichen frowned a little, but did not comment.

- Be punctual, he likes it when there are no surprises.  –  she huffed now, darting a judging look at him. –  He lives on a schedule. He likes routines.

- What the hell, girl? When wasn't I punctual!?!  –  a grunt, an unhappy one.  –  And who's hiring who!? Am I the one to be approved of?!   –  he scoffed at her, almost giving up on the whole deal.

He stared at her judgingly back now. 

- I don't plan on putting on a show for him. If he says "no", I won't be sad,  you know!  –  he growled.

- He knows it.  –  she said, coolly.  –  He needs to approve of you, just as much as you – of him. He will ask for a lot of money, I warned you about it. My brother says he wants to retire for real, and needs the money to just go away. For good. Away. Like, dunno... away. Tibet away.  This kind of shit.  –  she rolled her eyes melodramatically now.

- Hmmm.  –  Lan Huan huffed.  –  I didn't know you had a brother. I didn't know he was in the military either.

She tasted the disappointment in his words and smiled. All three on the team were extremely aware of the fact that Lan Xichen had done extensive background checks on all of them. But, of course, she had her little secrets.

All of them did.

- He is my half-brother. And he was in Afghanistan for almost 5 years. I was a kid when he left, and... and... when he returned...

She bit her lips and looked away.

Lan Xichen's frown deepened.

- He wasn't the same when he came back. It's a long story. It had been bad.

- Hmmm. You mentioned "Secret Ops", right?

- Yea... it's all... classified. Even I don't know anything about it.  –  she grumbled unhappily.

- A-ha. Well then. Let's see this... strapping young man. –  he joked now, trying to make her smile too.  –  You said he is my type? Eh?

- He is.  –  she said seriously.  –  But keep it in your pants. I'm pretty sure he can kill you within 5 seconds.  -  she snorted dismissively.

- Whoa.  –  Lan Xichen was now truly amused, his mood changing, and taking a 180 degrees turn.  –  A challenge? Sex AND death?!

- Ha!

- But Kitty-cat, how do you reckon? Do you really think I could cheat on my Wanyin!?  –  he batted his long lashes at her, and she finally smiled.

- If you had asked me this question 5 months ago  –  I would have said "YES"! But now... I'm not sure any more. He has... bewitched you!  –  she returned the mockery.  –  You have no idea just how whipped you are, Boss!

- Oh, bitch!  –  Lan Xichen laughed out loud.  –  Get outta here! I have more pimps to call, you know!  –  he chirped merrily.

- No one parties like you do, Boss. That's a fact!   –  she swayed her hips and left him gaping and staring at her perfect, round buttocks.
