17: Coffee

'No.'

'I am forcing you.'

'No.' Devyn said again.

'Yes.' Luke sighed in frustration. 'I'll raise your pay for a week.'

'Well if you said that in the first place, I would so have agreed.' Devyn said, grinning and she tied an apron around her waist.

'So you'll do it?'

'Yes I will.' Devyn confirmed.

'What's he got you to do now?' Jess asked appearing out of no where.

'Where the hell did you come from?' Luke half yelled. Jess shrugged. 'Helpful.'

'Anyways i'm helping him sell coffee at the 24 hour dance thingy.' Devyn explained.

'So your not participating in it?'

'I would have but..' Devyn trailed off. Jess nodded understanding immediately. 'Are you doing it?'

'Me?' Jess said, 'No way.'

'Why not?'

'Because I can't dance.' Jess explained. Devyn laughed.

'Yeah, yeah, ok.'

'So, Devyn. Is it still ok that me and Rory do the dance without you?' Lorelai asked skeptically.

'Oh yeah.' Devyn said. 'Luke is forcing me to sell coffee there anyway.'

'He's raising your pay check isn't he?'

'Yep.'

Lorelai laughed. 'Ok well i'll be expecting alot of coffee from you.'

'Sure thing mom.'

Luke had called the Gilmores phone asking if Devyn can come to the diner to help make more coffee.

'But it's 10:30pm.' Lorelai said exasperatedly.

'I know but she can stay the night.'

'Ok fine, but she better come back in one peace.'

'She will.'

Lorelai put down the phone and walked over to Rory and Devyns room. Rory was sat reading a book and Devyn was flopped down on her stomach, seconds away from sleep.

'Devyn, hun, get up.'

'What-' Devyn said, confused. 'Is it morning already. But I just fell asleep.'

'No Dev, it's 10 at night and Luke wants help.'

'But-'

'He is letting you stay over.'

Devyn grumbled, getting up out of bed and going to grab her jacket and shoes.

'Your going in that outfit?' Rory asked, looking up from her book.

Devyn looked down at her oversized shirt and sweatpants. 'Yes. I'm making coffee and sleeping. There is no need to where a fluffy dress.'

'Ok fine. It's just Jess is gunna be there and-'

'Don't even go there Ror.' Devyn said, cutting her off.

Her and Lorelai headed towards the front door.

'Be back at 7am sharp.' Lorelai instructed.

'You won't even be awake then mom.' Devyn laughed before walking down the garden and into the streets.

She made her way to Luke's to see in at the bar busy making more coffee.

Devyn banged in the door. Luke looked up, seeing Devyn. He walked over to the door and unlocked it, letting her in.

'I was just about to sleep.'

'Tough.' Luke said. He pushed her towards the bar. 'Make coffee now.'

'Fine. Fine.' Devyn said. 'Couldn't Jess have just done this?'

'He is. I'm just going to het him' And with that Luke hurried up stairs.

Devyn stopped making coffee and put her head on the bar. She was so close to sleeping again when Luke and Jess waked in.

'Devyn.'

Devyn lifted her head up so quickly she nearly fell of her seat.

'I'm up. I wasn't asleep. I'm making coffee. No need to worry boss.' Luke gave her a look. 'Oh hey Jess.'

Jess smirked at her. 'Hey Angel.'

An hour later enough coffee had been made.

Devyns head was on Jess' shoulder. 'Can we please please please go to sleep now.'

'Yes.'

'Oh thank God.' Devyn said, getting up of her chair and running up the stairs to Luke's apartment. She opened the door and fell on the sofa in exhaustion.

Luke and Jess walked in moments later.

'Why are you so tired today?' Luke asked.

'I'm running on one cup of coffee.' Devyn said, voice muffled slightly. She stuck her arm up and held up one finger. 'One single small cup.'

'Oh disaster.' Jess said sarcastically.

'Screw you.' Devyn said before falling asleep.

Also ik Rory and Dean break
up but i'm not going to have them break up just yet.
