↳viii. It wasn't his fault

Lorelai and Rory where in the living room looking at some papers when the phone rang.

Lorelai picked it up.

'Mom.'

'Oh Devyn great. Tell me what is the china ball, china doll or china wall that had the-'

'It was the china doll.' Rory said. Lorelai turned and through some papers on the floor.

'Ok they can go.' Lorelai said. 'You'll be so proud of me, like Rory, i'm organizing the take out draw. Anyway, where are you?'

'I need you to be calm.'

'Calm about what?' Lorelai asked, becoming serious.

'Calm about what i'm about to tell you.'

'What?' Lorelai asked, seriously, 'Where are you?'

'I'm alright.'

'Of course your alright, why wouldn't you be alright?'

'I got in an accident.'

'What?! What do you mean you go into an accident?'

Rory's head shot up at that. She quickly joined Lorelai and listened to what Devyn had to say.

'Me and Jess went to get ice cream and then it happened. Oh please don't me mad. Something went into the road and Jess had to swerve and-'

'Jess swerved?'

'Yes-'

'Jess was driving?'

'Yes.'

'Jess was driving your car and you got into an accident.'

'Yes but i'm fine. Jess is fine. Everyone's fine. My car could have seen better days though.'

'Where are you?'

'The hospital.'

Lorelai opened to door to the room where Devyn was and walked in. Rory following her in.

'Oh Devyn. Good.' The both walked over to her, 'You ok?'

'I'm fine.' Devyn replied. She turned to the doctor, 'Please tell them i'm fine.'

'She's fine.'

'Well what's with the rapping. If she was fine no rapping would be needed.'

'He arm hit the dash board. She has a small fracture in her wrist.' The doctor explained.

'So her wrist is broken?'

'Mom-' Devyn looked at Rory for help, but she only looked on sympathetically.

'It's a tiny fracture. Nothing to be worried about.'

The Gilmore trio walked in Luke's diner the day after the accident.

Devyn was fed up of everyone giving her pity looks or saying that the new Jess was trouble from the start. She just needed coffee.

They walked in and toke their normal seats at the bar. Luke came out and was about to say something to Devyn when she stopped him.

'Don't. Don't you dare say that Jess is to blame, because it wasn't his fault!' She sipped on her coffee and frown on her face. 'Speaking of. Where is Jess? Is he alright?'

Luke sighed. 'He's gone.'

'Gone?' Devyn sat up straighter, 'What do you mean gone?'

'He went to New York.'

'Why?'

'Here.' Luke gave her a note, ignoring what Devyn had asked.

Angel,

Sorry your finding out this way but yeah, i'm in New York. It's probably for the best.

Devyn frowned. She then got up and walked out the diner all the way back to the gilmore house.

She picked up the phone and dialed Jess' number.

'Hello?'

'Jess.'

'Angel, hi.'

'Don't you 'Angel, hi' me. Why the hell are you in New York?' I asked angrily.

He didn't answer.

'Well. I haven't got all day.'

'Because you're hurt and everyone at stars hollow will blame me.'

'They already are, Jess.'

He stayed silent again.

'I have to go Jess. Talk later, yeah?'

'Yeah. Uh Devyn?'

'Yes.'

'I'm sorry.'

He hung up the phone. Devyn sighed. What a crazy twenty-four hours.
