22: Mini Luke

'Hun. I know your upset but it's not like you broke up.' Lorelai said, sitting down next to Devyn who was lying on her bed.

'Might as well.' Devyn sniffed. 'He left amd he didn't even say bye.'

Lorelai sighed. She placed her hand comfortingly on Devyns shoulder. 'Come on sweetie, let's go get some coffee at Luke's. And just think, your graduations soon, you get to go to college.'

Devyn tried not to frown. 'Yeah.'

'Devyn. Here, take this.' Luke handed her a plate full of her favourite chocolate chip pancakes with toffee source dripped over them.

'Thanks boss.'

Lorelai and Devyn sat down at a table and began to eat.

'So.' Lorelai said, 'What collega are you thinking of applying to?'

'Well that's the thing.' Devyn whispered. 'I'm not going to college.'

Lorelai blinked in confusion. 'What do you mean your not going to college. Of course your going to college.'

'I'm not.' Devyn said, 'It's not what I want.'

'What do you want then?' Lorelai asked. Taking a bit out of a pancake.

'I want to go to New York, LA, California, Philly, wherever, and open my own cafe so people can read, study, eat, whatever they like. It would be like a Luke's but not a diner.' Devyn explained.

Lorelai looked at her daughter for a moment before smiling. 'You want to be a mini Luke.' She turned in Luke's direction. 'Hey Luke. I found a mini you.'

Devyn laughed, relieved that her mom toke it the right way. 'Mom i'm not going to be a grumpy diner owner who where's caps and flannel shirts for a living, no offence Luke, i'm going to be a happy, cheery cafe owner.'

'Whatever you say mini Luke.'

'Rory. Rory.' Lorelai yelled as he oldest daughter walked into the Gilmore House. 'We have a mini Luke in the family.'

'Your still calling me a mini Luke?' Devyn asked, walking over to her mom and sister. 'Hey Ror.'

'Hey.' Rory replied. 'Why is she a mini Luke?'

'She wants to be a cafe owner.'

'Yeah cafe owner not diner owner.' Devyn sighed. Lorelai shrugged pulling both her daughters into the living room.

'Same thing. Same thing.'
