The universe hated me. God had created me in a foul mood after a fight with his wife and that too on Sunday—what a blunt day and no one was going to change my mind in that. It was decided or else there was no reason at all of me cowering inside my apartment for one week to hide away from a neighbour's eyes.
The picture of Shravani and I holding each other together hanging on the wall of my apartment felt like a taunt piercing through my chest for breaking the promise I had made to myself three years ago of never letting a Rajvansh enter my life and ruin it with their hands. Now I couldn't put a name on the feeling I was feeling for my ex-husband.
When I shouldn't be feeling anything about him, especially the kiss that occurred in the heat of the moment. It wasn't gentle. . . it was faraway from being gentle. Abhimanyu Rajvansh didn't do gentle and I knew this better than anyone else. But in the admist of the recalling memory of the kiss, I craved a need to feel it again. Him pinning me against the marble counter. His mouth on mine. His rough hands on my skin as it burned me with something I couldn't put name onto and the throbbing between my legs.
Even after seven days, it seemed to not leave my mind. The warmth of his lips against mine felt like it was still there. Hungry. Rough. Punishing. Just like him. I shouldn't be bothering about him. Not when Abhimanyu's workers informed me that I was supposed to leave his villa.
He did it again.
Again same as three years ago when I was informed by his secretary that he was divorcing me. The warmth in my heart stirred and then sank at the reminder of what he did years ago, replacing by a cold fragile feeling.
"How are you feeling Zoya?" I asked the eleven year old lying on the hospital bed in front of me. The little girl with shoulder-length hair sighed, placing both of her arms behind her head and looking at me.
"Like a main character. Aarav asked for me to watch Avatar 2 with him, Vedu," Zoya replied as I batted my lashes in front of her. My 25 year old self holding back from asking Zoya who Aarav was. Since Abhimanyu didn't needed me as his doctor—which he didn't at the first place, I had decided to resume my shift in the hospital.
"Does she has any other medical condition other than fits?" I cleared my throat, looking at her brother and her guardian.
"No expect she talks nonsense," he replied and Zoya scowled at him. My lips craved into a small smile looking at the two siblings.
"Well... then—"
"Seems like your patient gave you a hard time or I guess someone couldn't do its job properly, Dr. Vedika." A creamy hand draped around my shoulder and my eyes forced shut at her voice in annoyance. Just yet another person sent by God to torture me.
"The only person who isn't doing it's job properly is you, Natasha," I acknowledged as I eyed the diamond ring around her ring finger. "You got engaged?" Natasha and I had joined the hospital as interns together but we never got along.
She giggled as I furrowed my eyebrows at her. "No. It is a gift from Dr. Thakur."
That pathetic excuse of a man.
"Well, then Zoya darling I wish all the best for your date but you need to take your medicines and I'll take your leave." I forced a smile towards Zoya and her brother who were looking between me and Natasha with awkwardness in their eyes.
"Leave?" Natasha's voice clinged my ears and I was inches away to stab her from my heels. "Yes. My shift ended five minutes ago," I told as I grabbed my handbag and turned to leave until I again heard Natasha's voice from my behind.
