XXVI
We're winning.
This was the last round between Darlington and Hillcrest. The crowd would boo whenever the opposite team got a shot in, which was almost never. And scream and clap when the Darlington's basketball team scored. Typical high school behaviour. Students from Hillcrest came over to support their team. Even their mascot came, sitting on the sidelines. Headmaster Owens deemed having a school mascot was childish and a terrible idea. Translation, Darlington is a prestigious school. The school's name, everything I've worked for would go down the drain if we partook in something so childish as such of getting a mascot.
Clem and Cam forced me to come, which I'm grateful for because if Darlington's basketball team really lives up to their godly reputation. Safe to say the rumours were true, Silas is an absolute god on the court. My eyes follow his running figure as he dribbles the ball on the floor, passing it to Kenzo when Hillcrest's point guard blocked his view. Kenzo does a firm slam dunk on the basket and the crowd goes wild as praises fills the gymnasium. Silas and his Best friend clap hands when Kenzo walks past, returning to the bench where they take a fifteen minute half time.
The unmatched duo played like Gods on the court. And here I was thinking everyone else were being dramatic when they rambled on about how good the two were. Hillcrest's students didn't look the slightest bit pleased with the outcome. I didn't blame them. They were on a losing streak.
One of Hillcrest's students, aboy taps on Mia's shoulders. He sat in front of me and she sat in front of him. Over the loud music playing in the background and the sound of shoes scraping on the floor, I managed to hear what was being said.
"You bitches got lucky." He hissed through gritted teeth. My brow raised. Luck? That shot was anything but luck.
Mia gave him a faux smile. Dimples. "How's the trash trailer baby mama doing? It's a shame she's not here to witness another downfall of Hillcrest. But I hear crabs can be extremely difficult and debilitating. What with all the scratching. Tell me something, Chase." She gave him an apologetic look that screamed anything but apologetic. "Do you not shave? You never know if there's a family living behind that bush."
Her voice was loud enough for the people around us to hear. Amorèt clamps a hand over her mouth, trying not to burst out laughing. Chase frowns before standing. He flips Mia off and she bids him goodbye with a sarcastic air kiss.
I look over at Cam. "Are Hillcrest students always like this?"
He nodded. "They're salty little bitches. They bitch and moan, essentially putting on a show for everyone, eventually returning to the corner they cry in."
I laughed.
Clem chimes in, "They're a bunch of weirdos." She's talking to me, her eyes however weren't on me. I followed her heated gaze to Ezekiel and the blonde he's talking to as she feels him up with her hands. I swear my best friend's expression darkens. I've never seen Clementine like this before. Normally she's a sweet, bubbly person who couldn't hurt a fly and would never hurt a person. But now? I'm not too sure about that. Clem looked ready to march up and bash her head in.
Minutes passed and the game was back on.
My eyes don't leave Silas even when he got knocked to the ground by an aggressive Hillcrest student. The coach witnessed the hit and called foul, then strode over to the referee, who gave Hillcrest a Personal foul. Silas got up like it was nothing. Which to him it probably was. My body would've been across the room if I got hit like that.
I sat back down, ignoring the stares people gave me when they saw how scared I got for Westbrook. I didn't know why I even felt the need to stand up. Did I really care if he got hurt? My brain says no, but my heart says yes. This feeling was surreal to me.
I ignored it and focused my attention back on the game.
The game soon comes to an end after another hour of beating Hillcrest's ass. The students at Darlington clapped for our winning team. Me included. Darlington came out Victorious again. Just as I stood up to congratulate Silas, Mia ran up to him.
And kisses him.
The crowd awed at the sight of the engaged couple. I stood silent on the bleachers, impatiently waiting for him to pull away.
He didn't.
He didn't kiss her back either.
He just stood there, letting my arch nemesis, the girl who dedicated her life to torturing me, smash her lips against his. Her perfect, plush full lips.
I swallow back a huge lump in my throat, pushing the suffocating pain away when Silas's eyes meet mine, brows arching. What are you going to do?
The worst thing is, I don't even know what I'm going to do.
I was relieved when Amorèt drags her out of the Gymnasium.
But I wasn't finished with her.
Ignoring Clementine and Cameron's calls, I ran down the bleachers, passing on my way. He tries stopping me from following her. I raised my hand, slapping him across his handsome face, not bothering looking back to see the look on his face.
Mia's back was turned to me. I used this opportunity to jump on her, using my body weight to push her on the ground. I swore her heel broke along with her ankle. Kenzo stood off to the sidelines as I completely demolished Mia's face with my fists.
She screamed. I screamed, however unlike her I wasn't in agony.
I'm ripped off of her. I turn to push the person when they grab ahold of my hands. "Never slap me again." Silas hissed in a low whisper. His eyes matched the craziness in mine.
I yanked away from his hold. "Fine. Next time I'll kick you."
Amorèt pushed past me, helping her friend up.
His glare narrowed into slits at me. He was mad. Very mad. "No. You don't ever hit me."
Mia screamed. "You crazy bitch!"
I face her. Kenzo held her back, his hands tightening around her waist, pushing his pelvis against her. Whatever he whispers in her ear riles her up even more. I don't bother hiding back an eye roll.
Silas grabs my arm, making me turn back to face him. "You're coming with me."
I give him a look. "Like hell I am."
Before I knew it, he scooped me up in his arms. I pound my fists on his back. "Let me go!" I shriek.
He slapped my ass and I went quiet.
I see an evil grin on Kenzo's face when we pass by him.
"You owe me, Westbrook. Remember when I said let's bet on who will come out victorious if and when the two ever fight it out?" His grin widened even more if possible. "I chose Autumn."
Silas's body goes rigid. Ignoring his friend, he walks out of the school building.
