It was around 40 minutes later when Soap came back. You were beginning to think he'd either forgotten due to the injury to his head, or König had outright refused to come see you despite making it a direct order, so you were oddly relieved when the colossal form of the Austrian ducked under the doorframe with Soap stood in front of him giving a cheeky grin.
"Looky who I've brought!"
Soap puffed himself up a little in victory as he turned to look up at the huge soldier, giving him a solid clap on the back. You notice how Königs eyes briefly squeezed shut in a wince."You play nice and let the doctor do their thing, right, König? Good luck, Dove!" With a final chuckle the sergeant left the infirmary, leaving the two of you to stare at one another in awkward silence.
You smiled warmly at the huge Austrian stood in the doorway. König was wearing a tight fitting long sleeved black shirt and his usual cargo pants, his face is still covered by the sniper hood he always seems to wear around you.
"Welcome, König. I'm so pleased to see you back home safe." Your voice was gentle, warming. Inwardly you'd hoped he didn't begrudge you for having Soap wrangle him into the infirmary.
König didn't reply, opting to remain silent and tapped each of his fingers to his thumbs anxiously as he stood in the doorway.
You signalled for him to take a seat and watched as he did so, albeit very stiffly despite his attempts at acting casual. Once sat down you spent a couple of moments opening Königs files, noticing from your peripheral vision how his leg bounced nervously and his eyes remained fixed on the tiled roof. This man was honestly a mystery. How could someone described as being such a weapon of mass destruction out on the field now be a seemingly nervous wreck? You took a seat and took the time to visually assess him while you sterilised your hands and put your examination gloves on. Despite wearing a black shirt you could make out a darker wet patch on his side which was shining slightly in the overhead light. It was blood and you knew it. You could smell the copper it held in the air, you'd never forget that smell.
"So! How'd the mission go?"
"...Classified."
You scoff lightly "well yeah I know that, I don't need to know the ins and outs, but was it a success? Did you get done what you needed to? I hope so, given the cost..." your eyes flicked briefly to the body bag in the corner of the room and then over to the critically ill soldier who you'd previously stabilised.
König wrung his hands together and breathed out a shaky sigh,
"Doctor...Respectfully, why am I here?" His tone was outwardly polite but evidently guarded. You gave the soldier a warm smile, "I was tasked to make sure you're all ok after your ordeal, you're the only one I've yet to check over..."
It was a small lie, you'd not checked over Horangi either, though while you were waiting for König to arrive you did briefly see the Korean soldier walk by your office, he gave you a rather enthusiastic wave and you could tell just by looking at him that he was, for the most part, fine.
"...and Soap mentioned you looked a little stiff, so I had him fetch you."
You could see Königs eyes narrow through his hood at the mentioning of Soaps name and you inwardly prayed that your mentioning the Sergeant ratting him out to you wouldn't cause any tension later on."This is not necessary..."
With a huff König attempted to excuse himself and stood back up from the bed, deeming it a waste of your time and his, but before he had time to get anywhere you stopped him.
